Over the last couple of months MoneySavers have been discussing noticeable increases in food prices. Yet one staple that we almost all use can still be found cheaper in frozen foods supermarket Iceland. If you don't know where your nearest store is then you can use the Iceland store finder to find it.

I have noticed over the last couple of weeks that the big supermarkets have all increased the prices for their milk eg Morrisons 4pt was £1-15 and is now £1.35.
I also heard that there is an ivestigation going on to discover if a "cartel" is being operated for fixing these prices.
But just to let you know my local Iceland is still selling 4pts of milk for £1.

we spend a small fortune on milk a week0 -
In my local shop the milk was always 99p for a 2 litre bottle (cheaper than at lidl). The price has now gone up to £1.19 almost overnight. I also buy UHT skimmed milk 1 litre cartons and on my last delivery from Tesco the price had shot up from 35p to 44p.
Thanks for the heads up on the iceland milk prices, I know its only pennies but they all add up.0 -
I never thought to post it, but I also noticed the same thing last month when I bought 4 pints in Tesco and later in the same day I was in Iceland's and noticed the price gap.Wins 2007 :Boots £125, XBOX 360 & 3 games 2008:5 David Gray CDs £10 DVD voucher 2 Crossed Bones DVD & chocolate Torch. I vaguely remember there being something in the news over the "summer" that we could expect prices of dairy foods to be increasing, but I can't remember the reason given! Whatever the reason given, I can't help feeling cynical though
In Sainsbury's a 500g pack of spreadable Lurpak has gone up this week from £1.94 to £2.18!0 -
I found Iceland milk much cheaper as well so get my 4 pints for a £1 as well but everything else seems bit expensive so perhaps its a loss leader !0

I had a note from my Dairy Crest milkman today saying it was going up 4p a pint (to 54p!) - the main reason given was a "world shortage of milk".Stompa0

Apparently its because of shortage and the weather ??

I know what you mean - with 4 kids and a wife we probably get through about 30 pints a week.
I love to drink the stuff!!!!:beer:I am a debt counsellor working in the voluntary sector - we don't charge our clients for the work we do!0 -

We had exactly the same note last night from ours in West Yorkshire quoting the world shortage, crap weather and feed costs..... Gone up from 42p/Pint to 46p
I've no reason to doubt him and he's not raised his prices for the last 18 months, the only thing about these rises is that he'll not be posting a similar letter in a few months telling me that the shortage is over and he's reducing the price :cool:0 -
not just milk
look at butter and margarine - all gone up by about 15% in all major supermarkets at the same time (eggs and bread will be next)0
