You shouldnt be responsible for giving a lift home, if someone cant get to/ from normal ,work its their problem to sort transport, 24 isnt a child , I was getting 3 buses each way to and from work from 16 early starts 6 in a morning, night shifts,9pm starts in the dark if i missed the bus i walked or paid for a taxi which i resented but the NHS wasnt going to pay for taxis for staff, Agree that the whole idea of having a babysitter is usually so you can have a drink and relax, not to worry about the baby sitter maybe you need someone more local and walk them back if needed..

Again you seem to be missing the obvious here. This is not an employer / employee relationship.

But the babysitter is not working under a contract of employment. It is a private arrangement between her and the OP. She could say it isn't worth her time if she doesn't get a lift hime.

BUT the OP says there is no one else who can babysit and she wants to continue to use her.

It is up to the OP to come to an arrangement with babysitter that they are both happy with.

As another poster said we used local teenagers. When we moved the lady across the road was a Girls Brigade leader. W e asked her if there would anybody in the Brigade who could babysit.

Unfortunately, it was a weekend when the girls were away bit she offered her daughter, who was training to be a nursery nurse,

It was an ideal arrangement as she only had to cross the road and her parents were on hand if needed.( they never were0

We paid a set amount up to midnight, not an hourly amount, and extra after midnight. Sometimes we gained, sometimes she gained.

When we moved again there was a babysitting circle of neighbours who sat for each other for credits which were used when you needed a sitter.

I've given this some more thought and I do think you should ensure the babysitter gets home safely, either by giving her a lift or sending her home in a taxi.

I agree that £14 for three hours (two hours babysitting and half an hour either side travelling) isn't particularly well paid and certainly not enough for her to be paying for her own taxi home.
