.. and mentioning a lift home is not available at the same time as asking for her to sit is a great way of giving her the option of refusing
Thanks for all the good advice. I knew my fellow msers would come to the solutionAnd pay for the bus, bringing her actual pay down? I wouldn't do it for the amount left, unless I was getting my bfh on top.
I'd pay her for the equivalent of one hour more of her time on top of babysitting (to include her time and effort getting to you) and let her sort herself out one way or another.
Ultimately it's someone you trust with your kids and who is reliable, how much do you value that?

Our buses don't run after about 6:30, so perhaps the bus is not a viable option.
I'd ask whether her dad could pick her up, make up some reason like the car is waiting for a repair or something the first time, and if her dad does pick her up then she isn't really reliant on you on other occasions.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

25 minutes walk. At an average pace of 4 miles an hour it means she lives two miles away. With a car that would take about 5 minutes to drive her home. Is it really that much of a hardship, she is looking after your kids and you won't spare her 15 minutes to drive her home?
Also 24 years old, so I hope when she reaches 25 you will pay the minimum living wage...0 -
how much are Taxis in your town?
25min walk is 3-5 mins in a car
Our town £3 anywhere.
if she knows you don't have anyone else you have a problem.

Another point to consider-
She's good with the kids.
She lets you book 2 hour slots- that's a bonus.
Yy
She needs to walk 25 mins there and back- so 50 mins walking for £14-£15 quid.
Yes, I totally agree she should walk but- will she be bothered to take the work if she has to spend 50 mins walking there and back? I don't know her financial position, so can't make that call.
I would probably take her home at 10.30pm because it is later but wouldn't offer for the 8.30pm.
If she stopped doing it, would you be able to find a replacement you can rely on? Again, I don't know the answer, just things to consider.
But bear in mind this is a cash in hand job that I'd bet she doesn't declare, so you effectively add 20% on top of that.0 -
I would just say, before booking her, that there will not be a lift available. You don't have to give a reason. Then she can accept or refuse the job.
I personally would not have wanted to not be able to have a drink all night. It was one of the pleasures of having a night out!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
It states she is a childminder in OP so presume she babysits for extra money. She is 24 so more than capable of sorting out her own transport. Moreover I don't think it is your job to pay for it.
I do think you should be paying her minimum wage though.0 -

As an aside and not aimed at anyone personally , I'm always bemused when people equate the amount paid/charged to the babysitter, even if a teenager to how good the care will be. Really? My friend's eldest could have told me his charge was £50 an hour, still wouldn't have changed the fact that he was a drug taking and dealing lying little scumbag that I wouldn't have left a goldfish with.0 -
I don't really think the issue is that the babysitter only lives 3-5 minutes away, surely its just annoying that the OP or her OH can't drink if the babysitter always needs to be driven home! I don't drink personally but I can see why people would want to on a night out. Kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it?0
