    *bump*

Okay, OH and I went on a reconnaissance mission around London Bridge on Saturday (funnily enough, he didn't need much persuading), and found the following:

    Brew Wharf:
    http://www.timeout.com/london/bars/reviews/8834.html

It's not the most MSE of places (3.20 a pint?), but the beer is excellent and brewed in the pub.

We also went to the Barrow Boy & Banker

    http://www.london-se1.co.uk/restaurants/info/100/the-barrow-boy-and-banker

    and finally the Horniman:

All good! At Brew Wharf you can hire out a section of the pub at no charge.

I know Generali is leaning towards Clerkenwell, but I really think it's a bit of a b*tch to get to...

    Any other thoughts?

The Horniman is great for London Bridge and if the weathers nice you can stand outside and gawp over at the City and the Belfast.

I had a look to see if there was a Wetherspoons nearby (very MSE) and there's one down the road at the Elephant and Castle - not very MSE as you're likely to get mugged  However (after reading the reviews) it does seem to be my kinda place ;)
If you're good at avoiding eye contact with inebriated old men then give this place a try

    and
The most amazing collection of full time alcoholics I've ever seen.
The pub's dirty, it smells like a tramps jumper and the food's pretty lousy.
    But, the drinks are cheap!!

Surely the seat opposite you! ;)
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.

    Generali's Borough Mediocre Pub Guide:

Barrow Boy and Banker - not a bad pub. Good beer. No atmos.

Horniman - Tourist hellhole. Service slow, beer poor. Horrid, horrid, horrid.

The Camel - Friendly. Prices ok. Full of Aussies though.

Brew Wharf (Barf Wharf?)- Never been there although looks ok from the outside. Posibility?

Anchor Inn - Possibility??? Tourist hellhole. Quick service. Beer ok.

What about the Anchor and Hope on The Cut nr Waterloo? Great pub. Fantastic food too.

PS Looks like we got through a day without discussing the iminent demise of the housing market/how were all going to get rich selling houses to each other. Pats on backs all round!

PPS I've still not heard about this s0dding job.

Here's a thought. There's a room above the Market Porter in Borough Market. We used to hire it out for Karaoke (don't ask) when I worked at Clearing Bank many years ago.

The Market Porter is a cracking pub. London pub of the year IIRC.

    I know that one - it's a good pub.

I'll give them a call and find out if they're free.

The Horniman is a bit touristy, but it means the smokers amongst us can have a smoke outside. Plus, the view is very nice. And it's not high priced.

Brew Wharf is slightly clinical - but the beer is very good.

I think i might have to create a poll on this one...
