With all due respect I came To seek advice and assistance. It got a bit confusing at the beginning because I created an account to create the thread forgetting I had made an account some years previously.
The help and assistance sought was to see if I had any viable option to claim any recourse I had been sold something that was sold something that it is not.If it were me, i would unplug the memory, go down to my retailer and get a refund as goods not as described.
Then perhaps go to the praise, vents and warnings forum to vent your frustration
You dont need technical assistance , as you are already aware
I read the manufacturers specifications as pointed out in a screen snip. Which clearly shows PC3 12800. Sellers/retailers are using this very information.
If you buy an oem machine that ships and supports PC3 12800 buying memory advertised as pc3 12800 should cause no concern? Until that PC3 12800 is actually PC3 10700 but is 'tested' at 1600MHz and an additional overclocked profile is applied. Upon which your oem board won't use you can't even overclock as the option is not there. You are blissfully unaware because your computer works and 'seems' faster than it was. sometime later you find out this PC3 12800 as stated on the manufacturers site is actually PC3 10700 with a 'tested' speed applied. This speed has to be used on packaging by the way
Now on further examination oem's don't usually compile their bios with overclock features. Hopefully you'll see the implications of this.
Not forgetting this is DDR3 tech (old as some may say) some people can't afford to keep up with the latest and greatest. Some people are using PC's with DDR2 or DDR 133.
As for insulting. That works both ways surely? I didn't ask for a flame war. I was seeking a reasoned balanced response not someone keep pointing at manufacturers listed specifications and stating "couldn't be bothered". Along with motherboard QVL lists
I like many others are/were 'blissfully unaware' if this thread helps people then great. I was expecting some people to vilify as I'v seen it on many forums.
Yes I am annoyed because I bought what I thought was PC3 12800 and infact I found out several months later it is actually PC3 10700.
Besides all this since using the SPD my pc has not blue screened and seems more stable than when XMP was in use. Doesn't alter the fact that my PC is registering a drop in memory speed. Reports suggest speed difference between 1333 and 1600 is 17%.
Any way I appreciate your input.
I'll continue to seek assistance with my issue though. I'm not expecting anything but if this makes people aware of this and if they're planning on upgrading then it's information that I didn't have .0 -
Hi,
Yes i fully understand your issue and I do agree with you that this is misleading.
I also agree that it is pointless for people to keep pointing out the specs from various sources as you actually agree on the specs and it is the way in which this has been sold to you that is causing your concern.
I get the feeling that this isnt the only board you are having this "arguement" on and i also get the feeling that reposnses on other boards have been similar to here.
The long and short of it is, that you feel you have been mislead by the seller/manufacturer.
So everyone can argue until they are blue in the face about wether or wethernot you are right, it makes no odds because it is the way that you feel.
Technically, others on this thread are correct. The specs of the RAM are there for you as a user to find.
But personally i would feel the same as you finding out after i had bought it.
I do however think you are wasting your time now on this thread, everybody has had their say, you may not agree but there you go ..
Again, the best place for this now is the PVaW forum.
I hope you get satisfied.

Hi
Irrelevant fact...
I used to own a Renault Scenic, it said Megane on the sides, but it was not registered at Swansea as a Renault Megane Scenic, just Renault Scenic.
In France it would be classed as a Renault Megane Scenic, but whatever it was called, and I called it a lot of things, it still broke down regularly.
So the actual performance was what was relevant and not the descriptor. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Did you buy the scenic for performance or level of trim?
Was you sold a dodgy dinger as a scenic and a megane are different models. A Megane scenic is an 'estate' variant
Or at best the plain scenic was a forerunner to the Megane scenic
but if your scenic Megane or otherwise had the engine it was bought for then what colour the seats or how many is irrelevant0 -
Memory selling as 1600MHz though for £149.99 :O
Same capacity kit from another manufacturer is cheaper.
Anyone want buy some PC3 12800 1600MHz? bargain at £100 save yourself £49.990
