He'll get points for no insurance, but not for the tyres if the offences were comitted at the same time. Unlikely he'll be disqualified for no insurance.
I doubt he'll get a freebee on the tyres. More likely he gets points and a fine for one tyre and the others taken into account, plus whatever for the insurance.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

If he's convicted of no insurance and it was comitted at the same time as the tyres he won't get any points for the tyres.

So yes he will get a freebee.

Trader's insurance is (or was) possible if you sold just a few cars each year even if this was a sideline.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Because 6 points is a disqualification if you've had your licence for less than 2 years ....
No it isn't. Having your licence revoked is quite different from being disqualified, and it certainly doesn't stop you from driving home from the court (as unlike a disqualification it won't take effect for several days, at least).
Mind you, that won't bother most scumbag types if what I see on "Police Interceptors" et al on the TV can be believed .... "Done for driving whilst disqualified " = a 12 month ban or whatever ... yeah, right, so a further ban is really going to stop them from being on the road.
When someone's done for driving while disqualified of course their ban will be extended - would you be happier if it wasn't extended? The extension will always be in addition to some other punishment, whether or not Police Interceptors mention it.
And how can you ban someone who technically doesn't have a license anyway ?
There are a couple of big differences between having no licence and being banned. Someone with no licence can get a licence (a provisional one, at least) any time they like by sending a form to the DVLA - someone who is banned can't get a licence of any sort until their ban expires. And you can't be sent to prison for driving without a licence - you can for driving while banned. So yes, of course you can ban someone who has no licence.

    The law says otherwise
4 Where a person is convicted... of two or more offences committed on the same occasion and involving obligatory endorsement, the total number of penalty points to be attributed to them is the number or highest number that would be attributed on a conviction of one of them...

ie if you commit more than one offence on the same occasion, you usually only get points for the most serious one.

The following clause gives the court the power to disregard this principle and impose points for each offence if it sees fit, so in theory it's possible to get points for both the insurance and the tyres - but in practice this power is rarely used.

But doesn't that mean you'd only ever get 3 points for the tyres? Because that's the highest number you'd get a conviction for a bald tyre?

Mmm. Is that whilst they're insisting they're really a private seller, honest guv? And it's their mum's aunt's motor that they're doin' 'er a favour wiv...?

There seem to be a few people out there under the mistaken "impression" that their cousins neighbour has trade insurance, it can cover them as well.

If you have one bald tyre or four, you get three points.
If you have good tyres and no insurance, you get six to eight points.
If you have one bald tyre and no insurance, you get six to eight points.

The size of the fine may well differ, though.

Yes, according to the good people at pepipoo, you get all the fines for all the offences, but only the points penalty for the most serious. They may well go for the higher end of the scale for no insurance since they may see the bald tyres as aggravating circumstances.

And the top end of the scale for no insurance is disqualification.

What's your thinking behind that as sentencing guidelines say.

    Factors indicating higher culpability
    1. Never passed test
    2. Gave false details
    3. Driving LGV, HGV, PSV etc
    4. Driving for hire or reward where insurance was in existence
    5. Evidence of sustained uninsured use

Factor indicating greater degree of harm
    1. Involved in accident
    2. Accident resulting in injury

Consider disqualification of 6 – 12 months if evidence of sustained uninsured use and/or involvement in accident
