Caught with 4 bald tyres and no insurance

This post is on behalf of a family friend. I have no sympathy for him but he was caught with 4 completely bald (F1 slick looking) tyres and he assumed he was covered on a traders policy for insurance however he wasn't. He has received a letter to attend a Court hearing. Just wondering what he will be expecting? A ban? A fine? Points? All of these? I know bald types can be fined at £2,500 per tyre however I highly doubt they will fine him £10,000.00 in the Magistrates Court.

Thanks

Seems a bit discriminatory to those challenged in the hair department.

Up to £2,500 per tyre and three points per tyre - each is considered a separate offence.

    Insurance - I think it's up to £5k and 6 points.

He could (should?) certainly get a ban through totting up all those points and a hefty fine. I think the ban could start immediately, so make sure he has a means of getting home from court that doesn't involve driving.

He's likely to get six points for no insurance, a fine for that and for the tyres if convicted. His fine will be relative to what he can afford.

No, he'll only get points for the most serious offence.

He will most likely get 6 points and a fine of 2-5 weeks income

Is his car necessary for his job?
If he can prove that he will lose his job and all income if he loses his licence he will have a could case for avoiding a complete ban.
However if he is in the car trade he is unlikely to be able to plead ignorance on the tyres. They are a separate offence. If he is a professional driver then he can expect the book to be thrown at him.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

No insurance is usually 6-8 points, the other offences will probably just be taken into account.

If you don't know why guess?

Unless he's already got points he is unlikely to lose his licence.

    More's the pity.

He thought he was on trader's insurance. So he clearly needs his licence for his job - yet he couldn't be arsed to even glance at the car he was about to drive. And that's assuming it was a customer's car, not his own...

Author of his own misfortune, to put it charitably.

I've come across several who claim to have trade insurance and have nothing to do with the motor trade.
