    Jackanory time?

    Which window today?

I knew a lad that was a DJ and he got stopped so many times it was in the papers. he claimed it was racist. Totally nothing to do with the fact he was on the roads at 3am when they used to be virtually empty and his total disregard to speed limis is what the police usually noticed.

When you pass near 2 police stations at 3- 5 am and doing 60+ in a 30 limit the chances of being stopped were high. Also highlighted by the noisy exhaust and illegally tinted windows.

MID does not get updated instantly it could take up to 3 days
As long as you print of and show them your insurance certificate they cannot seize your car or charge you for driving without insurance
You think people wait to drive until it shows on Mid as insured
A lot of people dont even know how to check on Mid

Try telling that to an arrogant policeman at roadside when you are a black or asian driver.

To the postere above who says he/she has never been stopped in 50yrs of driving. You are lucky or perhaps you do not belong to an ethnic minority community. Do you know what its like to be a young-ish driver with dark or brown skin? You get stopped all the time and for no reason (well they make somethinng up).

Moronic statement alert - you don't get stopped for being black/Asian, you get stopped for a reason (driving like a fool, no insurance, illegal modifications, random stop checks, lights out, poor condition vehicles any number of reasons that are fully legitimate.

And as for getting stopped for no insurance, you can get stopped automatically after ANPR cameras spot you. Most police cars have these cameras which are scanning every car that comes into view. And if your car shows up as uninsured its going to generate an alert and you will be stopped irrespective.

Not sure what the problem with police stopping uninsured vehicles/drivers

And those claim that you can show your cover note at the road side and drive away - have you tried it. The police are very stubborn and usually only take MID/Police db as the defacto proof of insurance. Their argument is that the insurance could have been cancelled after the cover note was issued. And you cant argue with some policemen - try it.

Complete unnecessary twaddle, they will ring the insurance company whilst you are sat there.

So, my point is that the law is there and so are procedures. But what happens in reality is usually different.

P.S. it has nothing to do with race/creed/colour. Don't play the race card it's insulting to anyone with a relative level of intelligence. "White" people don't get away with driving uninsured either ya know....

So basically your original post was a total red herring, you really just wanted to level your race-card whinge at the police and make us all feel sorry for you being a disadvantaged BME road user?

Nice try pal, but it didn't work. I don't give two hoots what colour you are, if your car is uninsured or shows as uninsured, you'll get stopped - and good job too, it shows the enforcement is working.

I've been driving for 50 years and have never been stopped by the police for any reason.

I was stopped once when I had my old Ford Escort. PC Plod thought I was someone else ... when he saw that I wasn't a young scrote (I was probably about 30-35 years old back then) and didn't have a baseball cap on backwards he realised he had the wrong person. :D

My point is that if an ethnic person gets stopped for showing uninsured on MID then he will have a tough time convincing some policemen that he is insured even if he produces docs.Sounds untrue; but thats the harsh reality out there.

Did I forget we all live in total harmony and there is no racism anywhere; everyone gets treated equally. I must have been driving in an alternate universe for the last 40yrs.

The OP's answer to the question is covered under section 165(A) of the road traffic act 1988.

The police do have the power to seize a motor vehicle for not having the required insurance BUT only after a number of conditions have been satisfied. Basically the police must first exhaust all possible avenues to establish whether the driver is covered or not. That MAY include making enquiries into the validity of any documents produced at the roadside.

So no OP, there is no scam.
