I didn't want to clutter up the May thread as hopefully people will be starting to post their target spends there. I started my May challenge on 20th April as I was keen to get going. I've yet to spend a single penny though we are only four days in. I have flour to make bread and filtered milk which should see me through to later this week.

Edit: The challenge is already doing me good. I've seen some Nespresso decaf coffee capsules on Am@zon at a good price - you can't get these in the shops. I have a pack of 12 unopened in the cupboard but would have bought these despite the fact I only use 3-4 a week. I have ground or jar decaf the other days, or decaf tea.
I probably will buy them sometime but knowing I would have to report it stopped me from doing it now.

The Nespresso machine was sent to me free to review a few years back. It sat unloved for about six months but the capsules came down in price, Aldi do them now.
I love mixing the Nespresso coffee with low fat / sugar hot chocolate to make mocca.

I'm a bit behind with my posting but last week I had a spend of £7.45 on cheese and fruit and hubby spent £19.87 on cake making supplies and ready-made lasagne. He made an amazing lemon meringue layer cake for his Dad's birthday which we've ended up with a big chunk of left. Mmmmm...cake...

May just scrape through to the end of the month. Possibly.

Feels like it is a long month!
I bought some bulk nuts which came to £13.76 then some shopping in a discount supermarket took the total to £32.76 last Saturday. Signature updated.

Will I make it on target this month? Hard to tell just yet as I have not meal planned this week. Still aiming for the whole calendar month if I can. Continuing to use stuff up; though I suspect the meals are going to get more exotic as I am now down to those oriental ingredients sitting in the cupboard!

I will be in town several times this week so will just buy in small amounts to get by.

Well done everyone; all these holidays are savage on the budget!

I need to go back to reading this thread every day. I've not been around much over April, and have hardly posted. I think the daily reminders and advice on here gave me the motivation to succeed in the past, so I'm determined to use the thread properly again in May.
I'm way over budget again in April and absolutely fed up with myself. Lots of waste too. I'm ashamed of myself but it's never too late to change.
I'm going to start in May and make a really determined effort to succeed again.
Spend in April £550. The house is once again stocked for a siege though, so that should help me stick to target in May!!

Well, I had a small spend on the weekend of about £8 in a1d1 just on lots of lovely veg, and I've been soaking and cooking dried beans like there's no tomorrow! Also seem to have inadvertently been batch cooking as my fridge currently has 3 portions of veg and bean stew, 1 portion of tomato bulgar, 3 portions of an aubergine mezze type thing, but which is great as a main with rice or other grain, plus various leftover vegetables which I've realised are the exact ingredients to make my favourite goddessbowl for tea tomorrow for me and mum! I have everything in for it, except lemons,
which I've gone through like crazy. So I will grab two nets of super 6 lemons from Ald1 this afternoon on my lunch break, and then tomorrow when I get paid, the only actual shop I need will be for a few store cupboard bits I've run out of, including oats and stock cubes, nooch as I'm perilously close to running out! plus bananas, almond milk, spinach and peanut butter for my smoothies,
and carrots and cucumber to chop into sticks for snacks.

This month I've done horrendously, possibly my worst ever. Really ashamed of myself, and annoyed too. I'm determined to tackle this. Although I feel I say that every month. but I have to keep trying as something has to give!

So with a very shamed face, and including my 90p on lemons I'm about to spend, I'm declaring April at £316.93 / £200

Well done to everyone sticking to their budgets, I love seeing everyone's meal plans and shopping!

  • Can't quite believe it but with a good following wind and a wing and a prayer I might make it within budget. £213.19 / £250 so far this month with food bought to take us to the end of the month. What this month has shown me is that there are still savings to be made, so I might reduce my budget in May. More batch cooking and planning is the way to go. Feeling very happy as have managed to make overpayment to the mortgage by being more careful. Thanks everyone for helping me do this :T
