A bit of a grocery shop yesterday, then overnight at work and got a pretty good night's sleep. That place is so hot I left the window open at first but got up to shut it eventually, stopping to admire the snow as I did so!
I am making gingerbread syrup (simmer a cup of sugar with a cup and a half of water, 2 tsp ground ginger, half teaspoon each of cinnamon and vanilla - for 20 minutes. Use in hot water or coffee). Gingerbread syrup is a very winter thing! MS too.
I need to go to the shops later and take my ice-proof boots for repair. I hardly ever need them but last night I discovered the heels are right down.
I finally organised taking my prescription to the new chemist, which should save time and trouble in future.
No running for over a week now: it's just too cold for me. However, the cold I had last week is finally almost gone and we have a lovely sunny day, so the well-being factor is definitely around.
Okay I'm off to [STRIKE]read all the diaries[/STRIKE] do some work and piano practise.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

You seem to be getting well organised Cherry.
The Gingerbread Syrup sounds great... how do you store it and how long does it last? That last bit is a silly question really as I'd probably be doing a batch a day! :rotfl:I Believe.....

It would last several days in the fridge Chrystal, but as you say, it probably wouldn't last long enough to test that! :rotfl:I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

So here I am listening to DS2 playing the piano - he taught himself - today. Not bad.
He plays guitar chords, which is a bit of a short cut (said I trying to make myself feel better about all the years of lessons which still haven't made me a virtuoso).

I have booked myself into an extra shift before Christmas which will save me taking leave on Christmas Day. I've also been talkig to the central heating company and it looks as though they may be finished on Thursday, so I'm home tomorrow. He recommended some filter to protect the boiler as the remains of the older system is full of rust and sludge and he doesn't want to polute the new system with it. Obviously most of the gunge has gone with the old heaters but there is enough in the pipes to cause concern. Anyway it all adds to the cost, along with some wireless thing they do to save running wire all over the house, but at least it should all be warm and dry by the end of the week.
And I read the privacy policy on something I was going to sign up for, and thought the better of it. They reserve the right to share some of my data with certain other people including charities and fundraisers. I would have supported them if it weren't for that, but I really don't want to be targetted by endless mailings from goodness knows who. I probably sound heartless but I have some charities I support already and there will be others I'll come across because of things that interest me - and I can do without random begging letters. It's a real shame though because it was a cause I beleive in.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

We treated ourselves to lunch out today!
That's been almost all the calories I've needed, even though I only had salad and a bowl of fries...
I did, however, get a first world craving for a smoothie with kale in :rotfl: so I went shopping afterwards. I also bought a couple of cheap travel beakers so I can take snacks on the train (including my kale smoothie) along with my flask of coffee.
I've got a couple more presents - one of which was on the list.
Two phone calls this evening: firstly the lady who looks after Mum's old house: full of alarm and despondency over the men putting too much rubbish out etc. I was on board with the general panic until she said it would be cleared up easily enough, at which point I realised it wasn't a total disaster, and texted the plumber to see what was happening. He rang me back and we talked for quite a while - turns out he has a tame scrap merchant who will take away rubbish and has in fact already picked up loads which the lady hadn't seen. He also asked me if my Dad had been in an associated trade (he had) as he had found detailed technical drawings of the pipework in the old house which had actually helped him work out how to do his job! He's even saved the drawings for me which is thoughtful.
It sounds as though there are various things they can't do due to the state of the house, so tomorrow's visit should be interesting! He thinks the bath is unusable as the plumbing won't hold up but the shower may be okay.
Other than that - a 3.44k run at what may be the slowest ever run / iceskating pace, but it was nice and I feel better for it.

I really like the sound of your gingerbread syrup, what do you use it for? I was thinking on DS1s breakfast porridge? My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Hi redo, I haven't tried it on porridge but I think it would be lovely. I just have it in hot water (great if I have a cold but yummy anyway). It was originally for gingerbread latte.
I think it would be good on ice cream too.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
