And another thought... does one wish a happy Christmas to parsnips? Isn't that rather tactless, like doing the same to a turkey?

Hello again everyone! I hope Christmas is going okay for you all? (I know Christmas Day is over but I celebrate - more or less - till 12th night).
We had a lovely Christmas Day with all the children and DDiL: such a nice relaxing day and it was good to have all the presents wrapped in advance for what was probably the first time ever! The next day was a bit of a slump emotionally and physically with an achey back and onset of worries about Mum's old house. DH talked me through it and I realised I mixed up some significant dates and am likely to have much longer to deal with it than I'd been thinking - not that I want to spend forever sorting it out, but I couldn't see how I could finish the job in the time I thought I had.
Anyway, that's all sorted in my head for the time being.
I've some shopping to include on here which I'll edit in as I find the receipts. Somehow they have not been priorities recently.Today has been the last of my days off and Dh took me out for a coffee and treated me to a mascara. Where I would normally have spent about £6, he didn't bat an eyelid at £20! Not that I'm complaining, and the assistant was great: she found just what I needed and says I can return it if I have any allergic reaction. I've only been able to wear mascara over the last few years as my eyes couldn't take it but now that I've got used to it, of course I don't feel quite right without (if I remember, that is. It's quite true in my case that as years pass I am much less bothered how I look and more glad that I can still get out of the door and get stuff done!
I digress. Anyway it was a nice afternoon, and I added to the spending with a scarf off the market to go with my best coat. (£3).
I did manage to save a few calories by getting a cappuccino instead of a hot chocolate but I expect the diary will have quite a few diet mentions in the coming months. Just warning you.
Spends 26/12/17:
Housekeeping £4.96
MS stuff:
Veg reduced to pennies in supermarket.
Long involved story but got a refund on booked cinema tickets (saving £20) and still saw the film thanks to gift from DS.
Spends 27/12/17:
Clothing £3.00
MS stuff:
Eating up leftovers from Christmas dinner...
Confession time:
Complete failure to buy cheapy mascara
Bought a scarf. That makes about four hundred scarves, though I do wear most of them.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Hi Cherry, glad to hear you had a good day, sorry you are worrying about your Mum's house. Would you mind filling me in a little here? I think I mostly have the gist of it, but maybe not. Hope your first day back at work goes smoothly0

It's grown a bit and is looking suspiciously like a flower bud!
The older amaryllis - the one from last year - remains leaves only so I'm obviously being too lenient with it.
Did you get to sleep eventually?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Yes, I'm really bad at sleeping for 2 or 3 hours, then being wide awake for a couple of hours before falling asleep again. That's the reason why a lot of my posts are at 3 in the morning!paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.

Parsniphead, if you see this, I've often wondered how you got your name.
Its a very sad time of year for us root veg.:( :rotfl:.
I think it may have come to mind while digging up parsnips in my garden. Its a stupid name really. I always worry about how Ploppy got their name.

The mind boggles. :rotfl:
There's something about being called 'parsniphead'... not sure what the something is apart from it gives not the remotest clue to your name IRL.
Christmas was lovely thanks. It continued today with two anonymous parcels containing goodies... I wonder if they're from my sister but there's no clue!
Low spend day today: I went to the supermarket for yogurt and came back with a big bag of fruit and veg as it was going at silly prices. Good hunting.
Spends:
Housekeeping £1.52 (still using the cash left in my purse from last week. However I spent nearly a week's housekeeping on last minute bits before Christmas and paid on my card, so I may yet break even over the two weeks). (And yes, I've paid the card off for all recent transactions, but no, I haven't delved back into the holiday spends to see what went from which budget, so the CC is still about £400 in use.).

I was going to have today as an NSD but over the last couple of days I've paid off more mortgage! Oh, and lived off leftovers and cupboards.
Hopefully all worth doing... and the back has been a lot better today. That's about it, really.
ETA: I also realised that as our mortgage is in 3 parts, I could investigate fixing the interest on the main part and working to pay off the two smaller parts in the coming year without being penalised... that's if the bank will allow it. DH and I need to rebook the mortgage appointment that we had to cancel.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
