As i said earlier. A friend of mine owned a haulage firm and the first thing they did when they got a new lorry was to remap it. More power for them was just the side effect of producing better economy. They ran a fleet of maybe 20 lorries.
Bet they never did any kind of actual double-blind trial.
The theory is more performance = less RPM for a given speed
Blimey, this remap includes a gearbox change?
I found that to be bourne out over the 10+ cars i've had remapped / chip tuned
Thank you for confirming my gut feel.

20 HGVs doing maybe 50,000+ miles a year each. I'm sure he knew what he was doing. And its a very common thing to do on HGVs.

This all comes back to EVERYBODY else is wrong and you're right, doesnt it?

What would be the odds of that eh?

No, just those with a vested interest in justifying their "investment" to themselves.

    Well there we go. Proof.

I have only ever remapped for performance and any economy gains have been a noted side effect, therefore i have not needed to justify the investment based on economy.

You'd better give BT a ring then. :rotfl:

    22,000 vans remapped...

    http://www.btfleet.com/News/NewsArticle.aspx?d=9o%2F5QdrmuxM%3D

"achieve significant fuel and CO2 efficiencies all within manufacturer tolerances and warranties. Importantly high levels of driver satisfaction have also been achieved with the new technology, with many drivers commenting on how responsive the engines feel after the remapping."

the recorded fuel efficiency gains are substantial and typically between 11-16%. Already implemented across BT’s 22,000 commercial van fleet, this has resulted in savings of £4m per year and cut 25,000 tonnes of CO2 from exhaust emissions.

PROVEN quantifiable fuel savings and improved responsiveness from their fleet of 22,000 vans.

Thames water - 1,500 vans remapped

    http://www.fleetnews.co.uk/fleet-management/case-studies/thames-water-cuts-incident-rate-by-24-in-two-years

All of the vans have also had their ECUs remapped through BT Fleet, resulting in a 7.5% improvement in fuel economy

Maybe they didnt think to do a double blind test though? :rotfl:

Mmm. I strongly suspect those corporate remaps achieve those gains by basically turning throttle sensitivity way down.

    Nope. Wrong again.

This is the company in question for both BT and Thames Water

    https://viezu.com/economy-tuning
    • Up to 20% improved fuel economy
    • Improved MPG - reduced emissions (subject to vehicle type)
    • Enhanced sharper throttle response
    • Smoother more progressive power delivery
    • Power and torque improvements

And from the BT Fleet case study - "many drivers commenting on how responsive the engines feel after the remapping"

Lemme guess... by the people selling the remaps?

Look, it's very simple. Manufacturers spend a huge amount of time, effort and money on maximising the efficiency of their vehicles. Fuel economy sells. So does it really make sense that a remap from some random small outfit could be SO much more efficient?

They're not your back alley garage type and offer a two week trial and if you're not happy it is returned to its original state and money refunded. They're confident because quite clearly they have a lot of happy customers.
