According to IA's figures, 2% of the threads started don't get answered within 10 days. (12 unanswered out of 560 which takes it back to threads started ten days ago)
That's one a day that gets missed on average. It's not a lot, and people who are really desperate would repost and (hopefully) be in the 98% that get answered. So some newbie posts don't get answered and get lost (but not many).
And just to compare, out of the most recently updated 560 threads, 38 (about 7%) are debt diarys and three are discussions about them.

But isn't one lost post too many?

I, IMHO, don't think it's so much that they don't get answered rather from my point of view that they drop off the page really quickly with few responses because a lot of people concentrate on the popular diaries.

Agreed, but putting the debt diaries in a sub board doesn't guarantee that all newbie posts will get answered any more in the future than they have in the past.
