0% Interest

Daft question maybe. Have had a Nationwide Select Credit Card, and also an MBNA Credit card for Yonks! Certainly ten, fifteen years or more. Is there any reason why I never get offered 0% interest deals, that anyone can think of please?

Thank you zx, would that be our moderate useage, and always paying off the balances?
  • Impossible to say without knowing the detail of how you use the cards, and what else is on your file.

It's probably not due to paying off balances though, as that tends to generate lots of offers from providers.

It might be worth giving them a ring and asking them outright if they have a deal if it's something you are looking for at the moment.

  • What do you mean by "offered"?

Do you mean being pro-actively contacted as being pre-approved? That's rarer than you might think.

The most probable reason that you do not receive any existing customer promotional offers is because your conduct of the accounts in question and/or the state of your finances/credit files in general does not warrant them.
  • I have a Select card which I almost never use. I regularly get offers - though rarely anything as good as what I get on other cards.

Perhaps they favour dormant cards on the basis they can get them active again.

Is it? I don't even live in the UK and Nationwide are still fairly consistent in offering me 0% offers on my Select card (and they do have my correct address).

Barclaycard and MBNA are usually fairly consistent too, in my experience.

OP, have you checked your credit file to see if there is anything untoward which may be there? Are you on the electoral roll at your current address?

You won't find many people on MSE admitting that paying off the full balance every month will adversely affect a credit card lol. Look at it from the point of view of the lender: If you pay off your full balance every month and never have a balance would you use a 0% APR promotional offer? On the other hand the lack of such offers on my MBNA card led to me closing it and it was a similar reason for closing my Nationwide account.

You would be better off getting a new card suitable for your needs rather than waiting for almost charitable handouts from an existing lender. But keep the existing cards going if only for the sake of your credit history.

Thanks for all your comments, guys.
My post was prompted by the frequent references to their 0% deals, by so many of our fellow posters.
In fact, I am content enough with my situation ongoing!
