blimey you poor thing. I am so pleased for you that they are gone, I had dealings with them whilst running a friends business getting told I was only picking on them because of their race - of course I was nothing to do with the fake notes they passed in the pub or the fact they were causing probs and trying to get booze whilst being underage - they started yabbering on in gaelic to which I told them in no un-certain terms in gaelic to shut there mouths and get out..............thankfully that seemed to do the trick and they were banned totally after that.
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.
  • Wel done with getting shut of them.

Personally I would have asked them to leave as soon as things didnt seem quite right. it wasnt a freind in a caravan it was his business family and all that went with it. Leaveing the gate open could have been very serious.

The local fair people own a plot of land in our town that was once invaded by travelers, they were gone the following morning within 24 hours of setting up as the fair people arrived and threatened to burn down their caravans.

I would have had a fireworks display ok maybe 1 or 2 fireworks carfully positioned/aimed avoideing your property ;) opps there is a caravan in the way. and just see what happens. Or maybe your looking in to new pest control methods molotov cocktails or somthing and doing the testing in your yard? or burn that rubish you have been meaning to get shut of for ages stray embers can cause fires just chuck them in the direction of the caravan.

I also expect that handing the registration's of the vans/trucks and cars to the police would be pointless, they are proberbly already writen off or registered to some poor old ladys metro in Abberdeen. These people live untraceable lives and break the law everywhere they go and deserve no respect or laws to protect them unfortunatly the laws protect the wrong people.

As a Parish Council Clerk, I think this needs to be clarified.

Firstly, Parish Councillors are not "politicians" - they are not affiliated to nor do they represent any political party. They are simply local residents who agree, voluntarily, to carry out the role of a Parish Councillor. What do Parish Councils do? Not much more than simply look after local bus shelters & playing fields (I kid you not! If you're not sure, then look at the minutes of recent meetings).

Secondly, the request to have these travellers on the OP's land was NOT made by the Parish Council - for them to do so would be completely out of order. It was made by an "acquaintance", who also happens to be a Parish Councillor.

None of this has anything to do with the Parish Council - nor any other local government agency, as far as I can see. Indeed, that is part of the problem - if this matter had been handed over to the local authorities (County Council Traveller Liaison Officer) it might have been dealt with formally.

Still, at least they are off the OP's land. I sincerely hope that is the end of the matter.
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)

So why do I spend £200 per year taxing my car when these scroungers do not?

Because you are a law-abiding citizen with a permanent residence. Therefore there is somewhere to serve the summons. ;)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

As vet8 reported earlier (post #45) that the gypsies have gone, I'll close this thread now.
