Gypsies on my land!!!!!!!

You have my sympathy too, I wont write what I think of them, as I would probably get done for being racist or something.
Through my quick thinking, and running like an athelete, I saved a traveller child from what would have been a fate worse than death, and I am not joking, the child was approx 18-24 months, and seconds away from being killed or mangled to death.
What did I get.... nothing, not even a bl00dy thankyou, just got filthy looks, and a load of gibberish.
To Debt free chick, :T you know your stuff girl, fantastic post,:D have you had dealings like the OP in the past?0 -
Thank you everyone for your supportive posts. I must say I was afraid I would get some trendy-leftie expressing sympathy for these scroungers. I do not like gypsies like this, I am sure there are decent proper Romany travellers around, but people like this are not them. I used to live in a place where there was a very nice common, where locals took their dogs and children and these gypsies kept moving in, knocking down the fences the Council had put up to keep them out and leaving an indescribable mess of rubbish and human excrement.
Anyway, our little problem is pretty quiet at the moment, we have spoken to them and tried to be reasonable. We complained about the litter, he said it was just his tools!! We said there had to be no more of this stream of cars calling at all times of day and evening and they had to go a.s.a.p. He said he was trying to find somewhere else. I just hope so.
Then they moaned about my dogs hassling them and complained that the wife was frightened of them and I should keep them away. The fact that this is our land seemed to cut no ice with them. How do you deal with people like this?
The thing I cannot stand is that they treat other people's property with utter comtempt.
Thank you very much Debt Free Chick for an excellent useful post, I agree that I think we have a problem because we did invite these damned people onto our land. AAAAGGHHHHH!!! How could this happen?0 -
hi Vet
Sorry to hear of your problems, I dealt with a similar incident a few years ago, and reminded the landowner that in law they still have the right to tend the land and cultivate.
I believed then and still do, that chicken and pig manure is a marvellous fertiliser for the ground and if applied liberally at a certain time of the year, normally the last week in September, it will be extremely beneficial to the land owner.
The manure is evil smelling and you really should warn people in the vicinity to close their windows for a week or so as it is very pungent
This advice was taken up and the result was incredible, within four hours all the scum which had settled upon the land had removed itself allowing the manure to cleanse the area and leave a happy farmer to his land
I am sure you can acquire some local manure in the interests of sustainable farming ?0 -

Don't be fooled. Do, please, get onto the Traveller liaison officer.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

Thanks for that
I'm a Parish Clerk and, yes, we've had travellers in our Parish. Mostly on the verge, so it was a Highways problem .... but there's a long boring story. Essentially, Highways have to serve a Court Order for them to "move on". This gives them 28 days to "move on". They wait until day 28 then "move on" ....... about 500 yards around the corner, on to another part of the Highway
So the process starts again .... Court Order .... 28 days notice .... move on day 28 .... move a further 1/4 mile around the corner  and on and on we go.
Councils now have a statutory duty to provide sites for Travellers - transit sites, where they can "rest up" for a while, before moving on somewhere else or permanent sites, where they can stay indefinitely. Incidentally, when on either site they DO pay Council Tax, which is why they are keen to avoid being on an official site
Also worth noting that Travellers ARE an ethnic minority, so any attempt to "deal with them" could result in a criminal charge of Racial Harrassment
For this reason alone - in addition to one of personal/family safety - it's essential not to attempt to "deal with them" at all, but to call in the Traveller Liaison officer. The TLO knows the law and has the power - and duty - to "cater for their needs"Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
It's your home and it's your yard.....therefore......Play loud music at all time of day and night using speaker on their side of the yard clean their side of your yard with Jey's fluid, using a higher than usual concentration. Leave some bright lights at night directed at their van. Do not lock them inside the yard or they could have you for "false imprisonement".
You might guess that I have no time for this kind of people. We had about 25 unwanted caravans on a local carpark. They stayed a whole week and after the right papers were served on them, they left leaving filth and destruction behind them. Animals, that's what they are.0 -
Im not really brushed up on the subject but good luck in getting them off your land! Keep us posted!0

Once again thanks for everyone's support.
Things are still fairly quiet. These people insist they are NOT gypsies and maintain that their original story was true. Hmmmmm! The man comes across as pretty reasonable, quiet, almost pleasant, although I accept that may well be an act. The woman is another matter, she is a (I'm going to be rude here) fat, useless lump. She does ABSOLUTELY nothing. She has never left the caravn since they have been here, neither has her daughter who I would guess is about 16-17. She is clearly in neither education or work. Both women spend all day in their caravan, doing whatever. They never go out, they have this little dog, which is fortunately fairly pleasant, but it is never walked at all, it spends all day tied up to something, whining most of the time.
Even when they drive out of the yard in the husband's lorry, he drives up to the gate (which I have closed again!!) and he gets out, opens the gate, drives through, gets out again and then closes it. She is too bone idle to even get out of the lorry and open the gate.
Anyway, we are adopting a quiet, but firm strategy, we have insisted they go and they say they are waiting for the guy who landed them on us to find them somewhere else to go. That in itself is odd, I do not understand what the connection is there. I am trying to avoid confrontation and also avoid costs as from what I have read about this it could end up costing us money to get these b*****ds off our land.:mad:0 -
I thought you were told by this 'acqaintance' that this man had sold his house and was just waiting to complete on his new house purchase - it seems now this man is dependant on this 'acqaintance' on finding somewhere else to live i.e finding some other mug to agree to letting this man stay in his caravan 'for just a week so'. I wonder what sort of response you will get from the man in the caravan if you politely ask how his house purchase is proceeding?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

have you managed to get in touch with this 'aquaintance' yet??0
