Private plates - a lighthearted question

When I lived near Weymouth many years ago a guy had an Anglia with COM 1C on it, he sold it to a dealer and the plate was eventually sold for a small fortune to (I think) Jimmy Tarbuck.0

You think right - but you must be quite old, because Tarbuck had COM1C in the mid-60s, to my recollection.knightstyle wrote: »When I lived near Weymouth many years ago a guy had an Anglia with COM 1C on it, he sold it to a dealer and the plate was eventually sold for a small fortune to (I think) Jimmy Tarbuck. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
You were very quick - I realised my mistake after about 10 seconds and deleted the post. Keith Joseph (Leeds North East) was in fact my MP in those years, but the chap I was thinking of was Sir Donald Kaberry (Leeds North West, similar slightly strange name).poppasmurf_bewdley wrote: »Don't think he was. Sir Gerald was MP for Kidderminster and then South Worcestershire.
Are you thinking of Sir Keith Joseph, who was a Leeds MP for many years. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
We tried to buy PLA571C via auction a few years back for one of the works vans, our budget was 8k max and it sold for 15k :eek:0

Oh and V1NYL went for about 20k. So much for our 5k budget ha ha

I've just bought a few years old car, which, according to HPI check had 2 number plate changes. From original to private and a year later from private to original. It really looked like forge (example (i have changed it for privacy reasons): NP13 to JE13 and back). Turned out, after receiving new V5, that previous name of the keeper was Jennie. If I have seen the private plate on the road it would mean nothing to me, but it must have some value to the previous owner.
I have seen the a car in hospital car park with private reg DOC (something).0 -
Spotted yesterday in Pembrokeshire, obviously a 60s music fan - a black Mitsubishi with K1NKS.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0

You are correct - he had it on a Bentley or Rolls when he was doing well and when he went out of fashion due to alternative comedy it was downgraded to a Metro or Maestro for a while :laugh:You think right - but you must be quite old, because Tarbuck had COM1C in the mid-60s, to my recollection.
MAG 1 C was on Paul Daniel's Ferrari for many years - wonder if "The Lovely" Debbie still has the rights or did/would she sell it on?I need to think of something new here...0 -
I saw 'S9ORT' on an E92 M3 at the weekend, which I'm assuming was supposedly meant to be read 'SPORT'.
As soon as I saw it, I thought of Darkmatter101.0 -
