How does Plusnet Fibre compare with BT Fibre?

Okay firstly I should say I have been happy with my BT Fibre, I live very close to my exchange and the speed I get is better than they advertise.

My yearly contract is soon up and I've tried haggling several times to no avail. I was thinking of trying Plusnet Fibre Extra, for 12 months. I would get some T.C.B then return to BT in 12 months time on a new Contract cheap deal, with T.C.B and most likely a £100 reward card.

I have never tried Plusnet Fibre. How will it compare with BT, should it be exactly the same? As they are both owned by the same lot? same exchange wiring etc, anyone ever had both and done a comparison?

Presuming it's fibre to the cab you currently have with BT then it's the distance to the cab rather than the distance to the exchange that matters, but if you are happy with the speed you get from BT then if buying a comparable offer with Plusnet (same upload/download) then the performance should be very similar as its only the backhaul that may be different, the bit from the FTTC (cab) to your home is exactly the same ( Plusnet router may be better/worse) than BT's , chances are you won't notice any difference, but swapping supplier when you are happy with your current one always comes with some risk, people who's migration turns out badly tend to be more likely to post a bad experience , than those who's migration was fault free

Should be exactly the same, although I would put more faith in Plusnet getting it right if you have a problem. The BT smart hub is better, having said that people do have problems with it.

I'm moving from BT to PN in a few weeks time, I'll let you know ;) I chose PN as they are part of BT and the router is supposed to be a rebadged BT Home hub. I'm hoping the service is much the same as BT, which has been pretty good for me, I'm moving from BT because of the price rises.

I was thinking that it should be much the same, my cabinet is on the street close to the exchange I have had fantastic speed 24/7, just trying to catch the money saving tricks.

Is Plusnet due a price increase anytime soon or has it recently happened?

I moved from BT Infinity to PlusNet Fibre last year as overall costs were lower.

Migration was trouble-free, didn't swap routers, as I use my own, just changed credentials and restarted.

Downstream speed actually improved compared to BT, initially upstream speed was been limited, but a call to support got it regraded to the expected speed.
  • Have just moved from BT to Plusnet myself. BT infinity 1 is faster (55 up / 10 ? down) compared to 40 / 2 with Plusnet. I have not noticed any real difference but the Plusnet forums are reporting major problems for people who do a lot of uploading.
Like yourself, I was happy with BT but they would not offer anything half-decent on renewal. Having said that, my son received the price increase email and was offered £25.99 for Infinity 1 and line rental when he threatened to move to Plusnet

Maybe its because Plusnet are now offering £25/month 12 month contract.

You get BT Wi-Fi, when you are out and about.

Not that I use it much, but once in a while it works.
