To be honest in Halifax's case advertising with bloody Hanna-Barbera cartoons suggests that average is putting it a bit high...

Love or hate them the advertising must work, they are the most switched to bank.

Or should all banks be like the Nat West adverts? Talk about depressing.

I imagine that's more because of the free £100 and the rather loose conditions for getting a guaranteed £3 a month. ;)

I agree that NatWest's adverts are like a visit to hell, although I'd argue HSBC's are worse for often being pretentious to the point of incomprehensibility.

OH loved her Halifax account 2016 for the £... switch
    and the £. per month
but as it has dropped to £3 now...
she has been nominated for a £100 switch to Nationwide
and all done and dusted without and hiccups.

    :)

I've had an account with Barclays since 2002 and their service is so lousy it often makes me want to scream in frustration. I'm stuck with them though as they are the only bank that will give me an account that works with Apple Pay

I should hope not too, given current rules and regulations regarding capital adequacy ratios.... ;)

Really? Many basic bank accounts that have a debit card are compatible with Apple Pay, e.g. HSBC and nationwide

True, but it doesn't mean that those banks will offer an account with that facility to Mrs_Ryan;)

To put it mildly your average FD customer is going to have a better credit rating and be better financially disposed because the bank is so choosy and there's so few of them, while the average Barclays or HSBC customer could come from any walk of life, get into trouble and be angry at the bank as a result.

I'd be interested to see HSBC ratings split by account type (standard, Advance, Premier). Has anyone done this?

Not likely; it'd make the survey very hard to do since then to be fair you'd have to segment all the banks by whatever they split their customer base between. I'm pleased that they've at least stopped splitting Santander customers up between 123 and not-123 - that never made any sense.

Won't touch Nationwide as had a bad experience before. The HSBC one I wouldn't mind but it's fiddly to apply for (can't get to a branch easily) and I'm not happy about sending documents by post. I have a full current account with Barclays but the only difference between that and my basic account is Apple Pay! (Because of my dyscalculia Apple Pay is a godsend to me and I use it a lot)
