Glad our cars are all thirsty petrol cars instead of the dirty economical diesels we used to drive.

None of the three (or four if you include my sons) break 25mpg on unleaded (two of them require superunleaded).

Good to know i'm doing to much to help the planet by not having diesels

All they're doing is trying to boost new car sales, just as they did in 2008(ish), give it 10 years and they'll be telling us that electric cars are in fact evil.

What about the thousands of tradesmen who drive diesel vans, all the trucks out there....or anything really pulling heavy equipment and providing services.

It's got nothing to do with them. Diesel does its job well in these installations and will continue to do so. The problem is all the diesel passenger cars doing short journeys.
Diesel drivers - the government will GIVE you £4,500 RIGHT NOW if you change your diesel (or petrol, or electric!) car for an electric one! Go get it!

That would be good, except anything nice costs more than £30,000
  • Oh good, another reason never to have to visit the living hell that is London.

If you insist on voting unthinkingly don't be surprised when things like this happen, you'd think the electorate might have sussed that by now, apparently not in this case.

I know thats written tongue in check but the reality
    • it'll be "scrappage" so your diesel car will be scrapped, it wont be traded in or left for you to sell on
    • it would need to be worth less than £4,500 (or whatever the amount is set at
    • you would need to be able to afford a brand new car as it will be "money off" your brand new car

I would say the likes of Dacia will benefit greatly from this.

Punt in your old !!!!!! Clio diesel worth £500, get £4,500 off a new Dacia @ £5995.

Boris had the job for 8 years he wasn't any better, upping the congestion charge, introducing the Low Emission Zone, handing swathes of road space to the lycra elite etc. etc.
  • Yes, Boris, candle in the wind or janus?, either way a born politician.
