And of course "they" know you're going to Spain. :D

They don't need to. If you're "wanted" anywhere in the Schengen area you're liable to be nicked on entry.

However, I don't imagine that extends to speeding in Spain.
  • Or seeing as they know the OP's details, will see their passport and refuse entry (and once Brexit hits, will refuse to issue her a visa).

We never needed a visa for Spain before the common market so what makes you assume we would need one after we leave it?

Because that was yonks ago and now the Spanish dislike the English due to the Gibralter dispute so they will very probably make things as difficult as possible for us.

What's your definition of yonks ago? Gibraltar has been under British sovereignty since 1713. ;)

How can your passport identify you sufficiently to link to a speeding ticket? It isn't linked to a fixed address, in fact it's one of the few HM docs I know of that doesn't need you to tell them if you change address. It would be a wily Spanish copper who could remember that Ms X has an unpaid speeding ticket just on the basis of her name.
Having said that, I suspect there'll be something in the car hire agreement about speeding tickets - if they've provided your daughters details, can't imagine the police not chasing up the hire place if you don't pay, and as suggested using the card details that were provided to pay it (plus an admin fee no doubt).
  • I wonder how many tickets we enforce in regards to other EU citizens.

I believe this can happen. Problem is, most car hire companies (and hotels) seem to think if they've got your credit card details they've got the equivalent of an open cheque. They just pay, so you have no opportunity to contest it.

Wow, and there I was thinking the Brits bought it at Tescos last week.

No, us joining the EU or EEC was yonks ago hence the easier way of non-visa travelling. But the dispute over Gib has escalated over the past few years, with the Spanish making it extremely had to enter it from Spain with mile-long queues and them sending in ships and boats into Gib territorial waters in an act of provocation.

I thought everyone knew that. Oh well as! es la vida.

I visited Gibraltar last summer from Spain and it took about 5 minutes to get through.
