Spanish speeding ticket
Hi, My daughter recently rented a car in spain and has been notified of 2 speeding tickets. She wasn't driving at the time and her husband was.
Since then they have split.
He is being , lets say, awkward about paying the fines.
I cant find a way to transfer the tickets to his name, the letters just supply a way to pay.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

Just pay them. Less hassle that way.0

Or don't pay them and never return to Spain.0

Who was it that sent the notification of the fines?
IF it was the car rental company then it's possible that if you don't pay they will pay for you and take the money from the card that you gave the number for as security (if this was the case).
If they don't do this, then it's still possible that refusal to pay could have implications should you ever wish to use that particular rental company again.
If the notification came directly from the Spanish police (or whoever it is that deals with speeding fines there), then it's extremely unlikely that they will pursue it if you didn't pay but you can never be 100% sure.0 -
It is the Cataluyan Police
They now do two things for spanish speeding tickets
1. stop you at the border and refuse entry
2. get a debt collector to collect their debt
so not paying is no longer a real option even if you never go to spain again0 -
Write to them and explain who was driving; presumably your daughter doesn't want to have to declare speeding fines on her insurance renewals or have points on her licence? Then if you ever get contacted by debt collectors, tell them the amount is in dispute and refer them back to the originator of the debt. Then they legally shouldn't bother you; if they do you can threaten them to report them under various 'acts'. See parking forum for further info.0

You get points on your licence for speeding tickets in other EU countries?
If there's a way to contact the ticket issuer, write (email should be OK) and give the name/address of the (ex) husband as the offender. I'm not 100% sure that matters though for speeding in other EU countries ... they may have a "registered keeper is always liable" policy.
(I'm presuming the (ex) husband was a named driver on the car hire agreement?)0 -
I dont think you get points, but they no longer just let it go either.
Unfortunately they supply no information to contact them, there is no email listed on the web site just a contact form which I have used but no response.
The stuff they send doesn't even tell you how to pay. which could bring out an interesting legal argument.
But I just want to sort it for my daughter
and yes he was0 -
