Evening all.
I have got a letter from Lowell Finance Ltd today, stating I owe money on an O2 (UK) Ltd account.
At no point in history have I ever had an O2 account. I haven't even had PAYG O2!
What's the score and what do I do?

Ask them for proof of debt.
Check your credit file to see if anything has been affected/added recently.0 -
As above, Check your credit file as it this could potentially be quite damaging.
Google "prove it letter" and send it to Lowell.0 -

I received a letter today from Lowell finance, stating that information provided from a credit reference agencies suggests that you are one of our customers and therefore we would like to speak to you regarding a personal matter. Should I phone them?0

General advice is to wait until they make a specific allegation in writing - then send a prove-it letter.
It's probably worth checking your credit file though.0 -
They won't bother doing much to a prove it letter.
Then they wait six months and start all over again - and hide behind "data protection" in an attempt to screw even more data out of you/avoid dealing with anything.
Scummers of the highest order!0 -
If you get an actual demand for money against something that isn't yours, or is so ill-defined that you can't work out whether it is yours or not, then a prove-it puts the ball back in their court.0

There was nothing confusing about my demand - I'd never been a customer of that company!
That little fact means nothing to Lowell though. :mad:0 -
They buy other people's debts so it could be something from your past. But it is their responsibility to explain clearly what it is and where it came from.
By 'demand' I mean a letter from Lowell asking you to pay them a specific sum.0 -
Nope, nothing from my past.
I've fully settled every debt I ever had and my determination to have nothing ever to do with that particular firm was steeled by the way they treated my mother when she was a customer.
So you can imagine my unbridled joy when in short order, I got a letter from the original firm and then Lowell demanding a not insignificant sum from me.
The original firm have backed-off after a fairly brusque correspondence but not Lowell, who have just started pestering me again by letter and this time phone despite clear cease and desist instructions.0
