    Morning all
    - Having a good sort through of my computer/spare/eBay sales room. Found a few things to sell, throw and give to charity. Done about 50% of the room and will continue tomorrow.
    - Have 1200 email to sort though as I haven't looked at any emails for at least a week. Entering comps, looking at offers, Martin's email etc as I go through. 700 done, 500 to go!
    - FPL
    - Look at Market Research apps
    - Pay my road tax
    - Check bank accounts
    - Pay CC - trying to up it to £400 this month, not sure if this is poss with road tax to pay, but will check the bank accounts to weigh this up.
    - Need to do a comparison on my private healthcare. I know this is a luxury but it was well worth having in the past for mental health, dermatology and gromits.
That's all for me today. LP x

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Morning All

It's been a hive of activity here this morning. My DS has actually cleaned the bathroom! Which he asked if he could do, OH made pancakes for breakfast & he and I split hoovering the house between us. Done a few loads of washing already.

I'm on late duty again, an event on tonight so I'm at home till late afternoon then go and let them in, then home for the evening, and back out to lock up.

LuckyPenny yes FD is first direct. Thanks Dawn we did the switch this week. Looking forward to the incentive :)

Hope everyone has a good day.

  • Hello, can I join?
I am on my own with 3 children and have been trying to reduce my expenses. I don't buy pizza anymore, make my own, I try and not throw away food. When my husband was with us he used to do cooking and he would always load up big portions for dinner that would never get eaten. I suppose one positive of being separate is that at least I can put an end to this. When I cook, I dish out smaller portions and everybody can have more if needed. (never happens) Unfortunately with kids we still waste some but a lot less. I freeze about half of what I cook and have a meal for another day, ie goulash, bolognese etc...
I am now trying to go away from sugary breakfast cereals and move onto porridge - will see how this will work. Kids managed to eat porridge this morning. Not only healthier but a lot cheaper. Will let them have other cereals sometimes though.
I am also planning on feeding baby home cooked food, I have to admit, have been buying jars for him.
I hang washing which dries lovely in the bathroom but still like to put it in the dryer for a few minutes as it gets rid of loads of dust and clothes are a lot nicer after.
I use dishwasher a lot less and wash up by hand more frequently.
Our electricity usage is around 14KWh - do you think it is a lot? heating and hot water go from the oil, not sure how much this costs me as I moved in to the house recently.
I am planning on making own flapjacks too.

Reading you guys is very inspirational and helpful, thank you!

Welcome somuchindebt, as Ziggy would say, this is a lovely thread with lovely people, do stick around!

I cooked my potato egg and Parma ham concoction and it was very nice too.

Today I am trying to get on top of the washing mountain, one load of towels is in and the rest is divided into piles around the kitchen floor.

One of the cats has projectile vomited a fur ball from atop the stool under the table which is her current favourite place. It looks like it may have been there some time  I have a damp floor cloth loosening up the splatters ready for cleaning.

The teens have gone to Bushey park today to see the deer so I may try to liberate some crockery and cutlery from their room.

I need to do a supermarket run but need a bath first.

The bouncy castle has arrived so I will photograph (the boxes at least) as *something* to put up on its FB page to populate it before going live though that scheme is a bit all up in the air at the moment so I won't actually be opening the boxes.

I need to find the paperwork for my not worth very much pension as if I'm going to cash it in I might be better now doing it before April so as not to affect my claim to tax credits next year.

Treadingonplaymobile has reminded me that I have leftover bread nearing the end of its usefulness, I could buy sultanas when I'm out and make bread and butter pudding.

I'm not sure what time the teens will be back so I might defrost some of the YS turkey strips for fajitas as that's something he likes to cook himself.

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend :)

I wonder if I could use frozen raspberries in bread and butter pudding, that would save me buying sultanas?

    Hey folks,

Manic few days - I will catch up with the thread as I can but am at work today

Today's mission (to roll on as appropriate)
    • B/L/D from stores
    • Sew at least the bottom ribbing onto my cardi. I crocheted all the bits by about September last year then it got complicated joining it up and I flaked out :o
    • Go to the gym this morning
    • Start planning what seeds can be sown
    • Charge phone in work
    • OH working tonight
    • Make flapjack healthy cereal bar things and freeze
    • Quick rearrange of freezer to make sure things in the right drawers. It got a bit higgledy piggledy dt space issues!
    • Crochet commission
    • Free stretching video
    • No alcohol
    • Early night
    • Listen to radio instead of watching telly (I like the Saturday night party hits on Radio City 2 :D )
    • Use 30% off code at Bulk Powders to stock up on nut butter (damn we eat a lot!)
    • Showered in work
    Have a good one all

Hi & welcome somuchindebt :D sounds like you're making great inroads! Sorry to hear about the change in family dynamics for you, but honestly wonder if it's sometimes easier! I brought my children up on my own, my way, my rules. With madam I have to negotiate with oh which is sometimes trickier!

I would also check your dw as my dw is very energy efficient and in terms of water it is much more eco friendly to bung it in rather than do the washing up. I cut the dw tabs in half so they last twice as long ;)

  • phew having such a busy day which isn't like us! Just time to grab 5 mins before heading out to meet up with dd. Cleaning the house in spurts between other jobs. Particularly proud of myself for putting back a ys 1/2 leg of lamb and a pork joint. Yes they would have saved us money in the long term but I am trying to use up current stocks! It was lucky I bumped into an old school friend while in Mr T and after chatting to her realised we don't need anymore meat in the freezer!

I keep mine 'off budget' for that very reason. I just have a category group for debts and then list the amount with that...so the category is 'Credit Card £3000' and then make a payment to that just like any other bill. I then update the name every once in a while when it comes down. I don't use credit cards like the true YNAB way because I don't use them for general spending. HTH :)

Thanks LA, i think I will use your method and just have the totals showing in the description. Will keep me in the green whilst actively acknoweldgeing the debt which will keep it in my consciousness in a positive way.
