Pasta, rice, stock cubes, lentils (green and red split), tinned toms, olive oil, eggs, oats and dried herbs tend to be my staple things. Plus plain & SR and bread flour.
I also tend to keep things like baked beans as these can be added to certain dishes (although never used them in SC).

I keep a good supply of 'soup and broth mix', dried mixed/salad beans and lentils - need to remember to put to soak the night before though; SmartPrice Dried Mixed Herbs, coriander, celery salt, bay leaves - obviously fresh herbs are best of all but not always possible; a pack of cornflour (usually SP) and SP powdered mash - both for thickening if the meal cooked is a little 'watery'; suet (for making dumplings); a range of stockcubes. I also keep a supply of frozen chopped/sliced onions and frozen garlic cloves (I buy 3 garlic bulbs at a time, separate into individual cloves, peel and freeze in a small re-sealable bag). SmartPrice Passata is useful too.
Diced turkey thigh is so much cheaper than chicken breast and can be substituted for most things. Also consider using chicken drumsticks and thighs instead of the bigger portions.
Those Basics/SmartPrice Root Vegetable Packs are very useful. I buy them as a matter of routine and just prep the veggies and freeze anyway. I've always got a good supply of veg ready then. I would check out independent greengrocers/farmshops if you can. We don't have any close by here so I'm stuck with Mr.A's.0 -
