To prove or disprove it to yourself, you need to do a blind test. As in, get someone else to fill the car up for you, but not tell you whether it's standard or premium fuel.

Cleaning additives dont work like that. The benefit builds up over time.

OH swears by it and won't have anything else put in his car. Personally, I don't notice any difference at all, and just put the ordinary stuff in mine. I may have to conduct a blind test and fill his up with the cheap stuff when he's not around, and see if he notices...

Im shocked..:eek::eek:,a wife filling husbands car with fuel?? wife always left the family car running on red line knowing how annoyed it would get me and I would fill it up......

I usually use V Power, it's a bit difficult to have an exact comparison because of traffic, weather etc. But I do a regular 350 mile round trip every week. Week before using V power (shell reward card offer :-) ) I got 44.1 mpg this week using Asda I got 41.4.

However I haven't had a dpf warning which I did get when using supermarket on a regular basis.

I do notice Tesco and Sainsbury seem to have the engine running a bit 'off' but Asda and Morrison seem to be ok.

...and of course the car always runs so much better after it has been washed... positively skips home from work on that last day before the holidays etc etc :)

If you feel that premium diesel works best then use it, simple.

I did a quick poll of our drivers (14 VW Caddy vans) yesterday & all used supermarket fuel to get the points on their clubcard/nectar or whatever... none have had any problems.

I am coming to the end of a 3 year Motability lease of a C-Max 2.0 TDci. For the first year I used any diesel, including supermarket stuff. Then a mate told me about Shell V-power. Now, I am an ex-workshop foreman, a motor engineer, and have always been involved in i.c. engines. So I carried out tests of mileage and engine notes, using two complete fills of basic diesel, then two of V-Power. On V-Power, the engine was running noticeably smoother and gave better acceleration. I have never used anything else since and I plan journeys using location of V-Power filling stations. I have watched my mpg gradually increase, driving in the same manner that I always drive. It has increased slowly, often by percentage points, and I calculated it myself, not by the dashboard computer. I have gone over 3 years from 39 to 47 mpg. I am a convert!

I will probably have some here who will scoff. I don't give a damn: I will continue to use V-power in my next car, a Hyundai Tucson. I know that I made objective calculations to arrive at the right choice.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Both run exclusively on Supermarket Fuel. No detrimental effects.

  • I use V-Power 99% of the time. I've NEVER put supermarket fuel in my current car.
