Anyone for premium diesel.?

Options
I run a 57 plate skoda roomster 1.9tdi. When I use shell v power diesel the car seems to run much better, does anyone else experience the same with their vehicles? Have not compared the mpg with the normal diesel. I do not use supermarket fuel.

No noticeable difference on my 57 plate Avensis 2L. I haven't done any sort of thorough technical analysis but it didn't feel any different. It runs just fine on normal diesel - supermarket or "brand" - always passes its emissions tests and nothing concerning crops up at service. I check and clean my EGR valve once or twice a year and it all keeps running sweetly so my view is why bother with the extra expense?

There are cleaning agents in the fuel which over time will help clean injectors, etc.

Personally, when i have a diesel i add a diesel additive for the same result. I then just buy regular fuel. Works out cheaper overall

  • OH swears by it and won't have anything else put in his car. Personally, I don't notice any difference at all, and just put the ordinary stuff in mine. I may have to conduct a blind test and fill his up with the cheap stuff when he's not around, and see if he notices...

I dont think there is anything in premium diesel that makes your car run better / go faster immediately. Its the long term cleaning agents that help the engine.
  • I use VPower diesel. I dont think it makes the car go any faster but I'd swear it makes the engine sound quieter.
  • I occasionally run half diesel, half veg oil. On this mix, mine runs more smoothly on veg oil, is quieter and best of all smells like freshly cooked chips.

To prove or disprove it to yourself, you need to do a blind test. As in, get someone else to fill the car up for you, but not tell you whether it's standard or premium fuel.
