Delivery mileage car..

Often a car could be moved from one dealer to another dealer by sticking trade plates on it and having it driven there. Cheaper than having it transported.
I'm surprised someone as experienced as you didnt know that?0 -

I do know that, but the point I was addressing was the suggestion made by our mechanic above that the mileage I referenced in a previous post could result from being driven at a port such as Grimsby.
And let's be clear, it's not *that* common for a brand new, unregistered car to be moved between dealerships on trade plates. The group I was working with had transporters moving cars around every day of the week, and transport costs were, relatively speaking, quite low compared to those many 'three dealerships in a group' type of organisation.
Pre-reg, much more likely, and that's what we're really talking about in this post.0 -

Unless a group has its own transporters and a dedicated HGV driver, its always going to be cheaper to move cars about by driving them. We used to do it all the time.
And with all your motor trade experience, and with all the reasoning you've subsequently given, the best you could have come up with was "It's 'registered and used for a couple of trips to KFC for the lads in the workshop and then sold at a discount'."
Do you not think that perhaps help propagate internet myths rather than promoting and supporting factual information about the motor trade?0 -
only new car i have ever bought had 2.2 miles on the clock which was a ford from genk in Belgium that is what i would call delivery miles
any pre registered delivery miles car with three grand off list has got to be a better buy than a new car built to your spec if you are happy to go that route0 -

Its not necessarily a foregone conclusion.- It might be old spec stock
- It might be a superceded model
- It might be registered in the previous year
- It might be registered on a previous plate
- It will have less warranty
- You wont be able to avail of manufacturer incentivised deals on new cars (finance contributions, free spec upgrades, subsidised / 0% finance)
- You wont necessarily have your choice of spec
Also, pre-reg car adverts / deals ALWAYS compare the pre-reg price to new list price, when in reality theres almost always a heavy discount avail off a new car.
An offer for a pre-reg at the min might read "Save 30% on this pre-reg car" when in reality :-- It was registered last year, so will be worth less come resale time
- Theres 25% discount avail on a brand new one
- Theres a manufacturers incentive on the finance of a new one of a £1,000 finance contribution
- Its last years model spec.
Not saying there isnt savings to be made on pre-reg cars, its just worthwhile doing your homework first.0 -
Hi,
I would be interested in buying this car:
It is a delivery mileage only Fiat Punto for 7688 pounds from a dealer.
How much would you be expecting to receive in terms of discount for this car / price? I am not that good at negotiating.
Delivery mileage means that it has a registered owner (dealer) so it is not brand new, the delivery mileage is 20 miles.
Thanks
Pre-reg Punto here for £7189...

You want them to throw in a full sized spare... and a full tank of fuel etc.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Pre-reg isnt always the best deal. There are plenty of discounts available on new cars these days. Also check out carwow. You may find you can get a new car for similar (and it wont have that extra owner on the logbook).0

That's not 'the best I can come up with'. It's a fact based on what I've witnessed with my own eyes - a pre-registered car which is used a little bit, then sold cheaply. How else would you like me to describe it?
And, for reference, the group did operate its own transporters.0 -
thanks again for all the advice. didn't want to cause an argument though.
i bought a pre reg punto in 2003 and never gave me any problems therefore i'd be happy going down that route again.
a brand new punto is around 10k so I was assuming that it would be difficult
to get a discount on the price getting it anywhere close to 7.8 7.9k.0
