Delivery mileage car..

Hi,

I would be interested in buying this car:

It is a delivery mileage only Fiat Punto for 7688 pounds from a dealer.

How much would you be expecting to receive in terms of discount for this car / price? I am not that good at negotiating.

Delivery mileage means that it has a registered owner (dealer) so it is not brand new, the delivery mileage is 20 miles.

Thanks

Kind of need more details (model, spec), but the cheapest "new" punto according to google is £10,890 (1.2 8v Pop+).

Its pretty difficult to get much more of a discount on delivery mileage cars, as they're already well discounted to get rid, and only there to artificially boost the dealers sales figures. As you already have £3k off sounds about right. Its obviously not possible for them to change the specs either as the car isn't "new". Ask them nicely though and they might fill the tank.
  • When I bought my pre-registered CVT Yaris, three years ago and 8 miles on the clock, the dealer would not budge on the already large discount from list of £3000. I was able to secure a few extras to complete the deal. e.g. mats, mudflaps, rear bumper top protector, door side protectors, sill threshold protectors and a space saver spare with jack and tools. The latter alone is over £100 to purchase afterwards.
This was prior to the "facelift" later in 2014 so probably trying to shift the remaining pre-facelift cars. It is a good specification too being the Icon + model.
  • Is it a pre reg? If so that discount mentioned by tho is about right.

You can always ask for more off, but you may well not get it due to the large discount already applied.

Try asking for a tank of fuel, a space saver wheel rather than a can of gunk, one or two free services, mats etc. But you may get none of them- the dealer may argue he'll shift it at that price regardless.

    thanks to all.
  • How does a brand new never driven car still manage to come with 8 or 20 miles on the clock?

Surely driving off the production line into the compound doesn't take 8 miles?

    It's not 'never been driven'.

It's 'registered and used for a couple of trips to KFC for the lads in the workshop and then sold at a discount'.

It's also worth noting that many marques' dealership diagnostics allow for a one-off odometer reset during PDI to set the mileage back to zero. IIRC for VAG group stuff a VAS1551 could reset odometers during PDI as long as the mileage recorded didn't exceed 100km or ~62mi.

Former main dealer mechanic. You're talking rubbish.

OP, the size of the storage compounds mean that its perfecty feasible to clock up a couple of miles just being driving to where they're parked up awaiting shipping. Here are the two at Grimsby port and as you can see they're not exactly small.

Hang on - so you've worked in one or more dealerships and can generalise that something does NOT happen at any, but, having also worked in plenty of dealership settings, I can't generalise that something does happen at some?

    How does that work then?

If we're going to play job title top-trumps, my experience of main dealers comes from working as a process improvement consultant to a very large dealer network for several years. That involved me closely monitoring (by actually being on the shop floor, watching; shadowing staff; taking part in activities; and one-to-one interviews) every aspect of a number of dealerships of several marques; and I witnessed cars on plenty of occasions being PDId with a following 'quick drive to the petrol station to fuel up, via lunch stop', before final prep and valet.

Some years later I work next door to a BMW, and next door to them a Hyundai/Kia/Mazda dealers now, with Renault, Nissan and Peugeot dealers just around the corner - and I still regularly see technicians and salespeople driving brand new, unregistered cars with all the stickers still on the windscreen and foam protectors on the doors via one of the three fast-food outlets within a mile of the dealerships.

I've on several occasions visited one particular dealership just opposite the petrol station they all use to point out that they should put trade plates on even if just driving the 50 yards to fuel up.

ETA: Also, let's be clear - the post I responded to asked about cars with 8-20 miles on the clock. It'd be hard work to cover 20 miles driving around the port unless there was something extraordinary going on.
  • What bugs me is the rudeness. "You are talking rubbish". No need for that IMO. "No I think thats incorrect" would be better for example. Why are people so angry and rude on forums? No need for it.

Factory to compound, compound onto wagon or train, wagon train to dockside and ship, off ship into compound (I've seen BMWs at Immingham and its a couple of miles), compound to wagon to dealership. Dealership may also send the car to a third party for final valet before handover.

OP price the car on drivethedeal and see how much the discount for a used one is over a brand new model.
