:jHappy Birthday JackieO. Lovely to have met you in person at the Charlton meet. Enjoy Cake!:j

Thank you it was a great mini-meet wasn't it:D, DD will have a cake hidden somewhere and when Mikey comes in from school shortly he will be grinning as usual as he loves having a 'surprise' for me (as if I don't know already :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: and says , 'Don't look in the cupboard will you Nanna as its full of rubbish :):):) so I oblige and 'don't look' :) The boys love birthdays and as there are a few of them in the family we seem to be having cake around every month or so, DGS Jacks birthday is this month as well and he will be 17 :D I am so old I can barely remember what life was like back then ;) a lot different than today thats for sure The nearest phone was down at the bottom of the road back then and we had no duvets, tea bags ,microwaves, colour TV, in fact few people had even black and white and those were usually rented ones. A british visitors passport cost 7/6d and you could only take a limited amount of currency out of the county on holiday
I went on a coaching holiday to Switzerland in 1959 and had to take Belgian francs,French francs,German marks and Swiss francs for the different countries we stopped in. 10 days cost all inclusive 35 guineas and I saved for over a year to do it :rotfl::rotfl:walking to work and back and no spending a penny if I could help it :rotfl::rotfl:I was pretty frugal even back then as I had an objective to aim for and credit was unheard of ,certainly not for a 16 year old you had to be 21 before you could vote ,get married without permission and have a bank account I had a Post office savings account and I think I still have the passbook some where with a shilling left in it to keep it open :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Must be worth at least half a crown by now :D

    Afternoon all
Just wrote a long post and lost it!
    So short version...
JackieO Many happy returns of the day
Snoozer I am sorry for your DS situation
Judi  Hope it's not that bad
TA I feel your pain as my DH was diagnosed with incurable cancer 2 years ago. No radiotherapy and no chemo. All they can do is try to slow it down with tablets and injections and we also don't know how long.
Sorry if I have missed anyone

    Sorry Rant Alert

Well after my water rebate yesterday ( £140 ) I received a bill this morning stating that I now owe £824!...No I don't  After a very long phone call to the water company no one can understand who sent the bill or why as it turns out THEY owe me £100!
So will wait and see what happens when the new annual bill arrives next month.

    Happy Birthday JackieO xx
    Judi - photos please :)
Snoozer - such awfully sad news xx

I left work early as I'm getting a migraine so am home already. Having Dmum yelling down the phone at me pre-9am didn't help. Obviously I am not allowed to be upset about DS's 18th because 'there will be other times to celebrate' marvellous.

    Evening chums.

What a faffy day I've had, a whole swathe of emails from DM and her neighbours about water ingress overnight, roof has been stripped off and a temporary cover put on but the rain was ferocious yesterday. And then trying to get the TV aerial bloke to contact my DM became a difficult problem until I realised that his calls were getting blocked by the Call Guardian on her phone. So, the bloke is ringing me from outside her building and them I'm ringing her etc.

Anyway, her main TV is connected which is good. The other two TVs can't be connected yet as they are on 'the wrong side of the building' which means the temporary repair won't stretch. I can manage on my tablet for the one or two nights I'm there.

It's properly freezing here today with the kind of wind which finds every little way in. There's a beautiful red and blue sunset so I hope that means a good day tomorrow.

Now I'm getting ready for teaching tomorrow. Lainey, I'll be thinking of you and your family and hope that all goes as well as it can. Take care of yourself.
