I am going on holiday for the first time to Tenerife Puerto de la Cruz.
I am going for four days with my brother and I have no clue whatsoever about Spain and where to visit and what to do.
The first and Foremost reason of going on holiday is to overcome my flight phobia.
I am looking for any suggestions ( money saving ofcourse ;) )
of things to do and visit bearing in mind that I don't drink.
I eagerly await you ms suggestions/advice.

I went to Tenerife last year - the first time I've ever been. I can recommend Siam Park - it's a water park, loads of rides, flumes, etc. etc. According to their website, it's 33 Euros for adults, 22 Euros for kids. Not exactly cheap, but I think it's not bad for what you get. You'll easily spend the whole day there.

That is, of course, assuming you enjoy that sort of thing !
  • Puerto de La Cruz is in the North of Tenerife and as the OP is only there for 4 days it would be better to stay in that area rather than having to drive to the South. Puerto de La Cruz is a lot greener than the South but with less beaches but there is a very large Lido set on the sea front which you have to pay to get in but it is very nice. I think that you would also be able to get a trip to Mount Teide which is in the centre of the Island and you have the opportunity to catch a cable car up to the peak. Temperatures up there are a lot lower so depending on what time of year you go you may even see snow at the top. I think there are also Botanical Gardens in Puerto de La Cruz so this could be another day out, I would suggest going to the library and see if their are any guide books on Tenerife and then start planning from there.
  • How old are you? I ask because if you are looking for young night life you needed to have booked Playa De Las Americas on the south of the island.
Peurto is for the more mature.

It is hilly so bear that in mind.

You can easily get around on service buses.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

Hopefully you realise that although it is Spanish it's not Spain! for one thing it's a good deal hotter now- but you don't say when you are travelling.

A trip to Mt Teide is good

Also look on line such as Trip Advisor to see what other tourists have recommended

  • Been to Puerto twice - great place to stay and a great central base for exploring the northern area of Tenerife - big bus station in centre of the town - buses go all over at reasonable prices, lots of fun if you get the 'local' route bus rather than the 'express'

Mt Teide is an absolute MUST DO - fascinating journey - did it first as a booked tour - but second time used local bus service and was able to get the cable car to the top - WOOOWW !!

Buses to Santa Cruz (the capital) are easy and frequent - lots to explore - shops, museums, churches, squares to sit with coffee and people watch - whatever turns you on

Puerto has the Botanic Gardens, several other similar attractions; churches, little streets, squares - full of bars, cafes, tapas bars, strolling people - locals as well as tourists

Beaches are good - there is a lovely sweep of sandy beach past St Philippe fort - just a different colour than we are used too!

Nightlife is very varied - basically all ages catered for - we were early night people but often met many youngsters on their way in as we were going out - always happy and festive

One thing I would say is REMEMBER although part of Spain, using the Euro, it is NOT part of the duty-free EU treaty - the non-EU strict limits on tobacco, booze, etc apply

We watched nearly half our plane load of passengers finding they had to pay Duty or leave the goods they had bought at Gatwick Customs - they should have listened to the travel agent's courier

It all depends on what airport your flying back to. When i came back from Tenerife to a smaller UK airport there were no staff at customs and we all just walked straight through!

We visit 2/3 time a year toPuerto and as stated it is a lovely place to stay depending on age as it is not like the south that caters far more for the Brits. Also take on board that you will arrive at the south airport so the transfer to Puerto will take at least an hour or longer depending on how many hotels the coach needs to drop off and what hotel you are staying at.
    Enjoy you break away :)
