  • NSD today. Walked the dog after work and have just made some cheese and bacon turnovers for breakfasts.

Bought ready roll puff pastry in Aldi yesterday 85p & pack thick bacon £1.59 & some grated cheese 50p. Cut the pastry into 6 put a slice of bacon & some grated cheese on each and folded over two corners to meet in middle. Cooked for 20 mins at 180. Total cost 49p each. Am fed up of porridge for breakfast so these will make a nice change :D

Hi Skinty, well done on lovely food.

Skinty I bet some of your costs will be less than predicted.

My work pension will be £11k if I work till 67. One of my friends wants the £15k full pension and is going to work till 67 for this. I wont be able to work till then not with my health.

I'm hoping to leave early even if I have to live off a pension of £6Kish and supplement this with some rental income from my spare room. I will have a basic quality of life but as long as we can buy food, read, do some gardening, travel by bus to the shops and the beach I will be happy.

Does anyone think i am being unrealistic?

  • Sounds like a good plan SW. I am going to have to work until I'm 67 as my work pension is not enough to live off since they changed the rules. Will claim part of my pension at 60 and find a part time job to top up my income until my state pension & second work pension start at 67. I am saving now for retirement period age 60-67 and should have some equity in the house which will help with living expenses.

I took a pair of shoes back today for a refund. The first pair I bought after Christmas were very tight and I was going to wear them in but decided against it. The second pair I bought were lovely and comfy so I am keeping them.

Look out for stormy weather this weekend. Sunday is meant to be the worst day. Stay safe everyone !

Just back from walking the dog. Very blustery and a few small branches down but nothing major.
Haven’t done much else today. Set up a gov.uk account and got my state pension forecast. I have to work 2 more years to get enough credits for full state pension at 67. I’m 51 so long way to go !
Baked some bacon & cheese turnovers for work breakfasts. Am going to cook a mini roast for dinner to use up sprouts, cauliflower & butternut squash.  I have chicken breast so will wrap that in foil and cook in oven with a parsnip & potato & the butternut squash.

Called off for petrol on way home from work £20 from budget.
Tesco express had reduced lamb rogan josh & rice £2.14 reduced from £2.75 & used a £2 tesco clubcard voucher, so only cost 14p 👍🏻
Walked the dog to the park, it’s still very windy here. She had a good run around after her ball.
Have done some more decluttering from utility room.
