    MORE HELP NEEDED PLEASE!

So flight prices are rising steadily - now just over £1k each direct return with BA. It's gone up almost £200 in 2 weeks (trying not to think about the £1100 premier economy I could have bought then).

In a dilemma now - do I buy now and be done, or is there any possibility the price is going to drop in the coming weeks?

Although it's about £400 cheaper to get the car we want through BA so maybe it's not so bad after all. Assuming Avis are a good company to hire from?

There's always a possibility. It's also possible that prices will increase further.

You can use BA/Avis for car hire even if you buy the flight from a different airline. Cat hire costs vary dramatically. Shop around. Try both US and UK sites, alamo.co.uk can be cheaper than Alamo.com

If you at getting quotes from Avis, look for appropriate discount codes from airlines and hotels. I'll post some later when I'm on my laptop.

Re Avis car hire, these are the codes I always use when I'm checking an Avis site, and the results I was getting on my most recent search. The results vary. A particular code doesn't always get you the best price and you can pay more instead of less!!!

    K817100 (American Airlines AAdvantage) -10%
K817200 Starwood Hotels loyalty member -5%
N744100 (British Airways Executive Club) -5%
    K817800 (Alaskan Airlines) +5% !!!
B831400 (IHG Hotels loyalty scheme) no effect

Also check Avis.com for current special offers.

On my latest rental, Avis UK were 15% cheaper than Avis.com. BA were the same price as booking with Avis, but I booked through BA with my BA Amex card to get 6 Avios per £. BA charge a £5 CC fee (even when you use their own credit card!!!) but give you an extra driver for no extra charge.

Pleased to hear it! Which code gave you the best discount, and what percentage?

It's London to Denver, 10th or possibly 9th Aug and returning 24th Aug. 3 adults, 1 child (aged 6)

That covers the period when the Total solar Eclipse runs across USA.

So I'd say the will only go up!

How desperate are you? If you could start your journey in Dublin, you could fly DUB - LHR - DEN - LHR for £1219 in PE/WT+

Would you consider flying to Las Vegas instead and doing the long drive from there? Not so bad if you are touring anyway.
