Small european cities that are easy to get around on foot

Murcia or Valencia in Spain. Murcia very flat and very pretty city, beach a train ride away. Valencia is superb, modern and historic, home of original paella and fantastic night life, beach close and public transport is a doddle. Both very safe and very clean. But like all big cities keep hand on valuables."Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."

Bratislava. Seriously.
If you have any Hilton points the Doubletree's only 10,000 points a night. It's a beautiful hotel, but in the new town so a bus ride to the (far more interesting) old town. The old town's a lovely little place and there are options to stay there too if you *really* don't want to get that bus.
Transport very cheap (just be careful with taxis - we did get stung, but on another occasion we were actually undercharged) - bus from new town to old town is less than a euro. Beer at €1-2 for a large one, menus of the day less than €10. Ryanair fly there, sometimes as cheaply as £10 each way. Lots of the bars are converted from the old palaces.
I'd go back tomorrow.#145 Save £12k in 2016 Challenge: £12,062.62/£12,000.00 Beginning Balance: £5,027.78 CHALLENGE MET

Rome is good but my favourite has been Riga. Beautiful city in a country with a fascinating (and tragic) 20th century history. Has the added bonus of being great value due to the generally low cost of living compared to many other European countries.0

I think most cities are walkable. Although many have extensive suburbs you are only going to be wanting to visit the historic centres.0
