Small european cities that are easy to get around on foot

Options
My last holiday was to Bruges.

It was perfect for getting around on foot as it was small so all major attractions was within walking distance (to and from hotel which was right by the belfry tower). I don't like public transport so this was ideal.

I'm looking to go on holiday again and want somewhere small that is easy to get around on foot.

any suggestions?

I highly recommend Bologna, Italy. i have been many times and am returning this year. Everything can be done on foot but the are also attractions a short bus or train journey away. The airport is a 30 min bus shuttle from the centre and the buses are regular. It is a lovely town but not one of the tourist hotspots heaving with people.

If you liked Bruges you'd probs like Ghent, that's very small and easy, Brussels isn't too big either. Then there's Luzerne, that's easy too, Munich is another. Barcelona even. Paris if you don't want to see all the sights is walkable. Pisa, Florence, Nice, Monaco. Lots really.

Amsterdam - nice and flat. We walked for miles.

Another vote for Amsterdam. Simply loads to see.
Lots of trams if you are wilting and there used to be a HOHO boat too

Haven't been there but my understanding is that central Venice is pedestrian friendly or you can get the vaporetto. Station is placed centrally.

(Want to say I have seen the city from ship and the islands too but wasn't walking well enough to see the place on foot and it's a long hike in the cruise terminal to get to the dock gates for starters!)

I was going to say Bruges but you ruined that straight away.

Although it's a big city many of the best bits of Barcelona are within easy walking distance of each other.

Another vote for Prague. Main sites easily walkable as long as you don't mind quite a climb up to Prague castle. If you can overcome your dislike of public transport, the trams are very easy to use and reliable.

Krakow - I stayed in the budget Ibis which is at the edge of the city, but even that was less than a 5min walk, absolutely lovely place to visit and cheap as well

Rome. We didn't use any transport other than walking and saw all the sights.
