  • OOps posted my goals and haven't done an update:

    1st and 2nd were NSD's taking me to 2

    Yesterday was spends as needed dog food, I was late ordering from Zooplus and we have nearly run out so got some smaller bags from a local pet shop.

    Today is a spend day - DH has been out on errands while I did housework and we are off to our first jumble sale of the year today!!

    I am grateful for:

    1. Cap'n Abundant and Turtle Shipmates - this months thread is great and so motivating.
    2. A DH who does his fair share with chores/errands
    3. DD has finally tidied her bedroom (although it has produced a mountain of washing)

    Have a fab weekend everyone!!

    Goals – 1. I am floundering seriously with buying my house, a mortgage broker cannot get us a mortgage
    .
    We had problems with DH last year when I got us our mortgage, he has no debt but they can't find a credit history (he is the invisible man) our mortgage broker said not to panic, worst case scenario we would use the NastyWest, apparently they take anyone:rotfl:.
    Stock takewe have an abundance of marmalade so need to make some cakes involving marmalade.
    .

    Might be a few new ideas in there. I am trying new things and thinking outside the box this month.

    Assuming I don't get back off the hammock (Rugby afternoon), it will be a complete NSD today.

    I must get into the galley and do some baking though, but I need a bucket wash at half time. I came back from doing my laps of the deck for kick off. No time for a wash. I'm fragrant.

    Captain Abundant – Thanks for the pep talk. Hadn’t thought of an emergency fund (retired, council are responsible for house repairs, no car, etc so didn’t really think I needed one). How stupid is that! It does make sense so I started one today. Just a few pounds but added to regularly it will soon build up.

    Dolphins are my downfall. I just can’t resist their cute little yellow faces that say “reduced”. Hence the reason why the store and both freezers are filled to the gunwales. Trying really hard to use everything up (dread to think how long some of it’s been there) so will restrict buying to items that are used on a regular basis or are needed within a few days. With that in mind bought ys pitta bread to use with some taramasalata from freezer for lunch tomorrow.

    Today weather was a tad inclement but we put on our oilskins and sou’westers and went for our daily walk (another 5 miles). Halfway through a force 10 with accompanying torrential rain hit an we had to shelter on Te$co Island. Did well to resist everything but the aforementioned pitta bread.

    Vessel looking reasonably ship shape but need to focus on a huge clear out as space on board is very limited. Living with serial hoarders really does not help. I could start a library and video rental shop not to mention a second hand clothes store. Do you think I could sneak some of it to CS when they’re not looking? Also have lots of toiletries that I know we are never going to use because there is so much of it (you know the bits that are in gift sets like soap, talc, etc). Anyone know of any organizations who might be able to use it. Women’s refuge or something like that?

    Other than that sticking to plans so grateful for;
    Captain’s pep talk (great post, really made me laugh and lots of good advice)
    Hints and tips from crew (amazing how all these little things help. A few that I’m going to take on board)
    Being in my jammies already watching all my favourite programmes on tele)
    Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.

    Amazing post abundant. Should we be worried our captain is talking to herself ?
    Will try and work out how to post fraglle on here

    Stopped off at Lidlee today half price face cream 79p so stocked up no dry skin for my shipmates. Did a shop whilst there, needed butter and like Bob have to have Lurpak.

    Went for lovely walk around local NT garden gorgeous sunshine, snowdrops and crocus smell was devine. Gave in to warming hot choc, was tempted at toasting marshmallows on bonfire they had going but stayed strong.

    My SFD will start on Monday as electrician coming tomorrow think I might have enough sockets spare in garage being digging them out.

    Cooking a huge turkey breast, potatoes were going to seed so roasted all of them and made huge pot of cauliflower cheese. Not sure I am a candidate for SW but curious about onion bhajies? Onions 29p Lidlee bought lots was going to make French onion soup but doubting if a beef stock cube would be good enough.

    Grateful for
    NT card
    Sunshine, stunning scenery
    A me day.

  • Ahoy Turtles!

    Lazy day for me as it's the first of four off.

    Have done a good deed today, and I guess it would count as donating, there was a post on freecycle of someone who had had a house fire and lost lots and was after kitchen stuff, so I donated a toaster and slow cooker.

    Rugby is on and I'm about to light the candles (trying not to put the main lights on). Had a few sips of my first beer in 20 days and it tastes a bit weird, but it's just from not imbibing more regularly.

    Abundant I'm not really a recipe person because I'm a [STRIKE]fussy[/STRIKE] selective eater so my stores use up is more one thing or another thing, rarely do things mix. Got a few packets of noodles and found a recipe for singapore noodles (minus the veg) that works well for work rations and also helps with the healthier eating.

    Grateful today for a caring friend who watches out for me and pulls me up when needs be, for it definitely not being January any more so that I can have a beer or two with the Rugby and grateful for my lazy day.

    Some places which like unwanted toiletries:
    * food banks - if people are struggling to buy food they're usually also struggling to buy toiletries :)
    * women's refuges
    * baby banks (similar to food banks in how they operate) - check here to see if there's one close to you - http://www.stripeystork.org.uk/babybanks/
    * homeless shelters
