If you transfer large files to work then you may well miss the far higher upstream speeds of fibre.

Yes the upload speed is nice to have. I get cheesed off with my colleagues who choose to live out in the sticks and work from home a lot (because they live so far away from the office) even though their internet speeds are similar to dial-up.

It looks like your ADSL downstream would happily support multiple concurrent video streams unless you are looking at 4K streaming.

I don't have a 4K television so that's not an issue for me.

I used to have fibre (FTTC) from BT and it was fine, but when my contract expired I asked to go back to standard broadband (about 14mB where I live) because my daughter had moved out and this speed was adequate for the browsing and streaming we now do.

Both BT and Talktalk said Openreach would not allow the line to be downgraded and said that was tough, I would have to continue to pay for fibre. Plusnet confirmed Openreach would not downgrade but said they were willing to provide a new line without charge. I therefore now have 12 month contract with Plusnet for 'free' standard BB for just the price of the standard phone line and no setup costs.

I didn't need a new router. I still had a BT Hub5 ADSL router for fibre which is an excellent router. I have kept this for Plusnet. Entering the new user name and password for the Plusnet account took a few seconds, no other changes were needed.

Thanks, that's good to know. I'm swithering a bit now. I think that if I could get fiber on a good enough deal I might just stick with it. That will probably mean sticking with PN though.
