Well done to DH for his new job anxglad it's going well.

You sound very positive, so keep it up!

Your description of coming off onto gravel is spot on and exactly how I've been feeling but we can do this!

    Morning all

Payday here and I just caught a glimpse of my wages as they flew through my account ::p

Most DDs and SOs paid. Have set up ANOTHER savings account with our bank. This ones is titled Bills. I will be adding to it as we go to top up anything if needed and also as I'm worried something will go wrong and we end up taking any steps backwards again.

So we have 7 accounts with the same bank

    Main account
    Top up debit card
    Christmas
    Car
    Emergency fund
    Bills
    F & F

I top these up by transferring within the online banking and can keep track of where we are.

My bank must think considering this woman's got no money she has 7 accounts :rotfl::rotfl:

Back in the day I couldn't cope with one account hence the reason I'm here ;)

Work calls and it's GCSE season. Very stressful for us and the kids. Bless them I feel for them.

Lovely that you're sounding so positive about things. :)
Hope all goes well with the GCSEs - a lot of pressure on everyone I think.

Hello diary world. I've just realised how long it is since I posted. Time flies when your having fun eh :p

Nothing too exciting to post just that DH is on the mend, he's happier at his new job and finally got paid. Albeit not quite a full month due to cut off dates etc when he started. Still we are still treading water and will probably see more benefit at the end of this month when he will have a full months pay.

It constantly feels like we're battling and it can get very :( at times.

Now in the final term at work, (30 school days left at work). That sounds better than 6 weeks. GCSEs are in full swing and it's so tiring but the days are flying past. Would love to have a nice holiday to look forward too this year but hey ho. A friend of mine goes away at least twice a year to some beautiful places and pays an absolute fortune (not that she can really afford them) she says to me you know you can book holidays now with no deposit and pay it off on direct debit :rotfl: No thank you very much that's all I'm short of.

Anyway, I was sitting in the garden yesterday and noticed how much needs doing out there from tidying to weeding to generally sprucing it up. So my plan for my 6 weeks holiday is to get out there and put some effort into it. Sod the holiday as the garden will still need doing even if we could afford to go away. I will get pleasure in sitting out there and getting the bbq out weather permitting and thinking I haven't just got myself further in the brown stuff paying £100 odd direct debit every month. Imagine me trying to book a holiday with Thomson on direct debit and them coming back declined :rotfl:
Feeling proud of myself now for thinking clearly for once. Years ago I would've just grabbed a credit card, gone on to the holiday sites and said where shall we go :o

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the nice weather we have been blessed with at the moment.

Six weeks at home doing the garden IS my idea of a holiday! :rotfl: Takes all sorts, I suppose. :D Just think how bronzed and relaxed you will be, not to mention toned from all the weeding and suchlike.
Maybe if you treat yourself to hotel-style breakfasts sometimes and get out and about for walks or tea shop visits, not forgetting staying up late or having a lie-in, you could still have a holiday without going away?

    2024: Trainers 5, dress 7, slippers 5, 2 prs socks (gift) 2, 3 prs white socks 3, t-shirts x 2 10, 6 prs socks: mostly gifts 6, duvet set 7.5 = 45.5/68 coupons

Hi Cherry and thanks. You are so right and now I've decided I'm quite looking forward to it. Our garden is quite low maintenance but too big really. So I plan to section the garden off in smaller areas. I also need to replace a lot of the lost stones but will shop around for a much cheaper version that we originally bought years ago. Failing that will use bark instead in a lot of the places as it's cheaper.

I plan to visit a few boot sales over the next few weekends to hopefully find some cheap plant pots and garden decorations etc.

I want a bench and have been looking on the local freecycle sites to see if one appears up for offer.

Also looking forward to toning up a little/lot with all the hard work lol

Love the idea about breakfast too and will even stretch to a few days out at the seaside with DH (sound like I'm 12 again calling it the seaside) :rotfl: Fresh air which is free, packed lunch very cheap too. An ideal day out.

The seaside (presumably with fish and chips?) would round it off nicely. :)

I wonder if your freecycle would stretch to a few plants and cuttings if you're green-fingered? Especially if you can offer swaps, but even if you can't, people who plant seeds usually end up with a surplus. I hope you can find a bench too. You will be sitting out there with a long cold drink while the BBQ heats up... lucky you. :)

You certainly have the right user name. What a great attitude you have to this debt clearing. It is hard when you are on a long journey but you seem to be able to find the positives and don't give up no matter what life throws at you. Keep going, it will be worth it. Holidays are great and something to look forward to, but spending lots of money that you don't have and paying off the holiday for the whole of the next year is just foolishness. So many people go down that path nowadays and it is seen as normal to get into debt for holidays when actually planning a relaxing time at home can be just as beneficial and costs almost nothing. Have a great summer in your garden and lets hope the sun is shining.

Hi moneywhizz. Your username reminds me of my wages whizzing through my account every month :)

If I think about it I'm probably still paying for holidays that we've had in the past  When I speak to our kids too about them growing up they both remember holidays but also remember days out that we had with family and have happy memories of them.

Already ive seen a big planter in my neighbours front garden amongst a load of other toot. I'm assuming she is throwing it out, I will be asking them if it is no longer needed would they mind me giving it a new home.

Have some good ideas in my head how I plan to renovate my garden and what it will look like in the end.

Work calls again and it's a big English exam today. Come on year 11 you can smash this :T
