Thankyou both. It hasn't been plain sailing and I've had many a wobble along the way so far I can tell you
It does feel good to know that I have my finances sort of in order. Apart from the overall debt. Having different accounts for different expenses is what's kept me on the straight and narrow so far. It helps me to stay focussed now as I have my yearly accounts sorted and a plan in place to start them off again after Christmas.
And not one CC in sight :j. My only regret is not realising this years sooner as I wouldn't be in this mess, but I'm putting it down to experience and battling on with it all.
I have accepted that I'm in it for the long haul and will need to plan constantly in order to keep me going in the right direction.
I've just realised I always say "me". When in fact it should be us. My DH is happy for me to organise and deal with it all and he just says well done now and again. At least he is taking part too. :rotfl:Emptying my lake with a teaspoon0 -

Thanks Happierdays
The separate accounts have been a Godsend to be honest. I opened them online through my bank and transfer regular amounts into them. I have a yearly car tax and insurance one. A Christmas one. A F&F settlement one and an emergency fund one. It just seems easier to keep track of our finances. Says me who's in debt up to my eyes :rotfl: At least I'm smiling about it and not pulling my hair out every day.

Hi all
Just updating again. I now have 4 accounts With money in each, 3 are at their targets
I also now have some funds in the F & F account. Not a huge amount but it's a massive achievement for us.
The car tax and insurance isn't due until Feb/March but knowing we have the funds ready and waiting is a good feeling. Christmas spends are ready and waiting too. This is an absolute first for us.
The EF is staying right where it is until needed. Fingers crossed not for a while but at least it's there.
Have done the weekly budget and have a set amount for groceries this week and will stick to it like glue. I need to forget about the money in the other accounts for now and get cracking on building up the F & F account as much as possible. First of all I plan to tackle the short term goal and would love to get this paid off by Christmas. With careful planning and more budgeting it could be possible. This is an overpayment of a tax something or other from DHs years ago. We knew nothing about it until it reared its head. I tried to dispute and discovered it can be chased legally after however long so hey ho. We've been paying it down monthly but now I want to chuck as much as possible to it to get it gone. Things like this is what keeps me motivated. We pay this by standing order so it's easy for us to up the payments. I will look at budgets and see just how much we can throw at it.
Bit of a rambling post but feeling quite proud at the moment as we haven't used a CC for months and months

DH took our car today for MOT. It passed with no work needed. :j. DH had already checked a few things, like men do, kicked the tyres and bounced the bonnet a bit :rotfl:
Very pleased about this as I was thinking it would need money spent on it. Another plus there then.

Hello diary world,
Things are still plodding along here and I've actually started Christmas shopping  It's never been known. I'm certainly not going overboard and have asked DD and DS what they would like. I've told them how much money they have to spend and it's non negotiable.
I have the money saved and it will be the only Christmas (that I can remember) that I haven't bashed the CCs to get what I wanted/needed. We are eating out this year too so no cooking for me :dance:This is also being saved for. This is also a first for us.
Looking forward to payday so I can pay some more towards our short term goal to which I have now Changed the standing order to a lower amount weekly and will pay a bigger sum on payday. I like doing it weekly too as it makes me feel better and I don't have to wait until payday every month to feel like I'm driving it down.

It sounds as though you've really got your head around sorting things out..... well done you!
Brilliant that you won't need to use the CC for Christmas - why do we do it when we KNOW we'll be paying for it long after next Christmas

Hey all
Just noticed how long it’s been since I’ve updated. Just a random one really so I don’t let my diary disappear completely. Life just tends to get n the way.
On the debt front we are more or less at the same place. Just plodding along with token payments for now. However Halifax have now passed our accounts over to a company to deal with on their behalf. We are just waiting to hear from them.
MBNA are about to default us and BC have already done so.
A few months back I would’ve been petrified at the thought but now I’m actually willing it to happen.
Anyway my plan is to still carry on until just after Christmas and then I aim to start the new year with a new set of goals, a new set of repayment offers and a new busget.
This year really has been about accepting that we were/are in financial disaster and getting creditors to work with us in order for us to pay it all off at a more realistic amount and me being able to hang on to my sanity (just)
Hopefully my plan will all come together

Good to hear from you! You are hanging onto your sanity and it's worth a lot. Just keep popping back and let us know how you're doing.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
