I have lots of corners like that. Perhaps we should have a competition to see what's the oddest thing found lurking?

You are doing so well this month, great to see you've avoided using the cards! It has the feel of something that's coming together nicely. :)

Thanks cherry and as for the corner I still haven’t done it :o. I go up there with all good intentions, I get distracted accidentally on purpose and then do something else. :D

It’s taken me forever to even get this post written, our front door hasn’t stopped with trick or treaters. Ahh I love seeing all the little kids all dressed up though. I remember doing the exact same thing with my two when they were little.

I am beginning to run out of sweets very quickly though, I hope they’ve all nearly finished and on their way home. I couldn’t bare the thought of not answering the door if a little one knocks.

Not much news on the debt busting front. Had to pay DHs stag do money tonight for future son in law. £97  what happened to a few beers in the pub or am I just old :rotfl: DDs Hen do has also been paid for me a couple of months ago so that’s 2 things sorted.

It hasn’t caused too much damage financially though it’s just a chunk we could’ve done without but needs must and all that. At least theyre paid.

Thinking back to the start of the year though I would've whacked everything on a CC and then transferred over to a 0% card :o. My mindset is definitely changing for the better. Everything now is paid for in cash. Shame I didn’t find this mindset a long time ago. We live and learn

    Fridaaayyyyyy again :T

    Another week of work done.

Came home to a random letter from Everyday Loans. We had a massively high interest loan from them back in 2010. We were told that we had to agree to the PPI otherwise we probably wouldn’t be accepted. I cancelled the PPI after a while and the loan was paid off as usual.

I then tried to complain about the mis selling of PPI, the complaint wasn’t upheld. I didn’t take it any further.

Today Everday Loans have written to me stating that due to the high court and changes to their policies, I now have the right to complain again. I swiftly did this hoping I may get a little something back even £100 compensation would feel like a right result. We shall have to wait and see but it seems odd that they have told me to complain again

Just about to do my budgets for the week ahead and check balances etc. It’s like I play a game of finance with myself every week. But one day I will be the winner of the game :rotfl: until then I have to keep playing

    Hi diary world

Just realised I’ve not been posting regularly again :o

Life gets so busy and by the time I get home from work cook, clean iron, blah blah blah I’m shattered. No excuses though I have been around but don’t have much debt busting news. :(

Payday this week and another round of paying bills etc. It seems like I spend my whole life at the moment thinking about finances.

Feel free to ignore me I always get miserable around Christmas time and I’m not sure why. I have a feeling it’s got something to do with a time years ago, A very close family member was at ours for Xmas dinner and they were terminally ill. A bad day for them health wise and everyone was feeling down because of it. The dinner never got eaten and sadly they passed away a short time after. I can only put it down to this. OR maybe it was my cooking :rotfl:

Anyway must kick myself up the back side and pick myself up again. Focus on now and not then.

Will be paying my first payments this week to the DCA who are now managing our Halifax loans. We are paying them quite a bit more than we have been but not quite the full contracted payment. At least we are paying more and making a small dent in the totals. :)

My short term goal is also building and hopefully after Xmas will tackle this one big time. Need to feel like I’m making progress with this debt business. I know I’m in for the long haul and must be patient. Baby steps all the way.

Oh, that must indeed be a hard memory to come to the surface each Christmas. :( Do you have any memories from happier times with that person around Christmas? Perhaps you could find a little something to do in their memory this year if that would somehow make it better? I'm thinking either looking out a happy photo or making a little donation to a charity in their name/for their sake so that the memory of them goes on being an active positive thing.

That short term goal is fattening up nicely. :)

    Hi Cherry and thank you

I have years of happy memories around Christmas time as this person loved it. We used to hide all the children's prezzies at their house and they would deliver them on Christmas Eve when the kids were in bed. I suppose I miss that. Also the fact the kids are not kids anymore more either :rotfl: I have some christmassy photos of them having a good time and think I will bring them out and raise a glass or 2 to them :)

I feel better today though I think I was just having a moment.

Anyway, payday tomorrow :T I get to play the money game with myself again.

Thank you again for your kind words.

    Evening all

Feeling a lot brighter now, thanks to all for your support and words of encouragement. If only you knew how much it means :A

Payday has been and gone lol but I have made our first payments towards our loans via a DCA. We have more affordable monthly payments in place and already I feel easier knowing we are paying it off regularly now and fingers crossed all goes well and we don’t have any hiccups along the way.

All CCs are now defaulted and will be upping my payments to them also. :)

I have just sat and done an online shop within budget and have organised accounts and checked that all DDs and SOs have been paid and am currently sat with a cup of tea and a hot water bottle. Easily pleased I am :rotfl:

Feeling a sense of relief today that things are so much more organised and settled.

Will be saving for F&Fs now and this is my goal for the new year. Going to see how much I can save and kick this debts A*se. I plan to set myself small debt targets of £500 and tick each goal of as I reach it. I’m in it for the long haul but you have to be in it to win it eh :D

    Hi diary world

I have just spent the best part of 2 hours working out budgets, writing budgets, adding budgets, creating unrealistic budgets, more budgets until I have finally settled on a more realistic budget which will allow us to pay all direct debits and standing orders which will be increased slightly to our creditors, save a little every month and possibly a small amount weekly from DHs wages  I plan to start this as soon as Christmas is over and have even planned a 52 week challenge for myself starting today with £4.28. This is to see how much I can transfer to a savings account every week even if it’s a couple of pound some weeks.

I sooooo need to feel like I’m making some progress at least.

My short term goal now stands at £1006 considering it was near £2500 at the start :T I want this one gone as it will give me a boost knowing I have completed one challenge and finished one debt at least.

This year for us has really been about:
    • Accepting we were/are in a financial mess
    • Being brave enough to ask for help
    • Getting over the initial shame, and feeling a failure
    • Starting to make sense of it all
    • Going backwards and forwards with SC
    • Deciding to go self managed
    .

I plan to update figures on my diary so I can see the progress being made (I hope).

All this will set us on the right path towards F&F settlement deals along the way God willing.

Today I wrote a shopping list of only the things I needed after checking freezers and cupboards and even came in under budget so a bonus there. :D

Anyway I have 6 and a half days in work then I break up until 2nd January :j. Actually looking forward to Christmas this year will be spending it with family and eating out Christmas Day. No cooking or washing up for me :santa2:

We haven’t any snow here yet I was quite looking forward to it.

Well done..... sounds like a good plan and I'm sure you can make it work. :T

You may get snow Sunday

happiness isn't achieved by getting extra things,
but by getting rid of the things that make you unhappy
  • It sounds like you had a really productive day M. You're well over half way to your short term goal which is great!
Your savings challenge is a good idea- even if each payment you put in is fairly small it will soon mount up and next year you could have a tidy sum sitting there.

I bet you'll spend a lot less on Christmas dinner by going out, and the lack of washing up is a bonus :)

    Hi Emma
Our Christmas dinner has worked out cheaper too. The kids both insisted they pay for themselves and their partners and Im not in a position to argue. I will just be feeding them all on Boxing Day but already I have a few bits that I’ve been picking up each week. Very :money:

I find though I’m constantly thinking about money, it’s payday for me on Friday and I know exactly how much I will have left after all DDs and SOs have gone. I have them all except one go on payday that way I can relax knowing everything is paid before I even contemplate buying a tin of beans lol.

So Thursday around midnight I will be rich, Friday morning I will be back in poor land.

Just looking forward to January as my serious plan ( I’ve had a few of these ) will hopefully come together.
