Credit Score: Effect from having accounts with different lenders?

I'm currently looking to apply for my first credit card (primarily as a way of strengthening my credit score, but secondly to earn a bit of cash back).

I'm curious to find out if anyone knows whether or not having accounts from different banks/organisations can make a difference (either positively or negatively) to a person's credit score? I'm aware that having a clean record in terms of debt is going to make the biggest difference, but am unsure as to whether having accounts from a variety of banks/building societies/commercial organisations could also have an impact?

Many thanks in advance.

Your credit score is not the big thing you make it out to be. You are not awarded lending based on your score but on your history.

Where and with whom you build that history is up to you.

To answer your question, new accounts cause it to go down, once it is over 6 months old it will go back up. Do the CRAs award lending? - Nope! Is their score anything other than how they view you? Nope!

Just out of curiosity what score would you like and why?

Lenders can't see who you hold accounts with when they look at your credit file so there's no impact on how they will view an application.
