What a sad story. So sad for all concerned except of course the errant husband. I hope the wife can get some good adviceMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!2 -
Hope she gets an excellent solicitor. If they want to help then they should spend the money on that3

A decent locksmith can make a replacement key for a locked door. I had to have it done when we moved into our last house and weren't given keys to the french windows.3

Her parents think that his bouncing her into 50-50 joint childcare (removing her right to stay in the house or his obligation to pay for it) was indicative of the research and planning he has done, preparing for his next step up to more expensive, bigger, better (the other mother is a divorcee with house and her child). They only bought the house a year or two back. Her best hope is to go for full disclosure as he has removed all the money they held jointly, and he has pensions, while she, still under 35, has nothing, and of course, she is entitled to 50% equity in the house, but he will have run up debts having work done.
It is really playing on my mind.
Anyway, nothing happening in the bank accounts (and no PB wins again this month) so I am making bread and I will prepare a shepherds' pie later as I have a half pack of mince defrosting. Other than that, I need to get some seeds going, and prepare for tonight's Zoom call. And we need to move bedding around, having completed the weekend's legacy bedding laundry mountain.
Oh, I nearly forgot. My rotary washing line has bitten the dust in yesterday's wind. One of the arms bent back on itself. It is quite old and has been limping along since DH last replaced the line and over tightened it, bending the said arm. I think it is older than we have lived here so it owes us nothing. I believe we bought two new spikes for it (one disappeared but was in the wrong place anyway). I did some comparisons and ordered a replacement coming Friday (complete with a new spike). I suppose nothing goes on forever. I might retrieve the line from it for that well-known person, Justin Case!Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Oh, what a horrible situation to be in, really hammers home the vulnerability of giving up work for childcare. And without casting aspersions, what's the betting that "50:50 custody" turns into "my new girlfriend will look after my kids while I continue my life as normal"? I hope she gets some good advice.
Justin Case stores a LOT of things in my house! Really quite the hoarder.Start mortgage date: August 2022; Start mortgage amount: £240,999; Original mortgage free date: August 2056

Gosh, that experiment to read and respond to my diary has not worked! I seem to have put myself last all week!
There is very little to report financially as it is almost the dead zone. Just the credit card bill looming for Monday when it will clear in full. It is huge, with the picnic bench, cooker and dishwasher purchases (all reimbursed) lurking, ready to persuade me to be frugal when the balance drops by over £2k!
I have done my vegetable seed audit and sorted things into pouches to plant this month, next month and April, with a separate envelope for the things I want to succession plant.
I have still to go through the seeds that flower and herbs, to sort these in a similar way, and DH is going to scalp the orchard so I can go for my wildflower meadow look there. Also I must check with @foxgloves re echium seeds as I gathered some while we were in the Brodick Castle grounds in September and I want to plant these at the right time. I got three sorts...
Later today I must enter loft 1 to get some of the stuff around the entrance out. This is the one I have never been in. We might postpone loft 2 until tomorrow, but they must both be pretty much emptied before Monday. The dust sheets will be deployed... Loft 1 is clear around the entrance. Four huge crates of books (I had been looking for some) were decanted to shopping bags, then repacked into the crates and stacked in the big spare room, along with many miscellaneous things and two huge boxes of shoes (treasure in there!) and DS's lego. At least one Harry Potter book from the missing ones was in there. There were maybe 50 Granta editions, which DH used to subscribe to, too
.
This morning we are out for coffee and breakfast with bee pals. DH has to treat it as a hobbit day after yesterday's slightly mean supper; shepherd's pie and peas (or so it seems from this morning's snack evidence in the kitchen) and he is about to have a first breakfast!
I am hopeful we can get going with loft 2 this afternoon, to get it out of the way!Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Well done on loft clearing and good luck with loft 2.
I would like to declutter our 3 lofts this year but before we can do that we need to make space in the house first. The plan is to work on the house until Easter and free up a space for sorting the loft contents. We will only be able to bring down a couple of boxes at a time as space will be limited. Decluttering the outbuildings is likely going to have to wait until next year. I feel like I'm living in a giant sliding puzzle.
