What a roller coaster for you and your DH but what a positive outcome. Cheering for you.
Sorry about the family stress though, you really did not need that just now.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

I'm pleased to hear that Mr S_L has been pronounced fit and healthy.
My late mum was similar to yours but for her it was driven by her toxic husband (not my dad). When I phoned to tell her that a car had knocked us off the motorbike, my then boyfriend had stitches in his leg and we now had to pay the bike loan and pay to travel from Kent to London for work while the bike was being fixed her only response was "Well you need to send your Gran the money that you do - she needs it". She didn't even ask if I was hurt and the money referred to was £10 a month that I starting sending to Gran to buy a bottle of scotch for Grandad when he was dying of cancer. Mum and the toxic husband were living in Gran's house at that point so Gran really shouldn't have needed anything that badly.
I stopped calling my mum after that one and it's a good decision by you to do the same. There's just no need to put yourself in the firing line like that. Hugs 😊8 -
Sometimes I feel sad that I don't have much family I am in contact with and then I read about other families on the diaries I follow on here and my heart goes out to those who put up stories of their lives and I realise that maybe not having much family is a blessing and there is a reason I am not in contact with my family.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Re family, I think we just need a little break from speaking every day. I'm still deliberating whether to tell them anything about DH's health worries. Because my mum (who is 94) always turns everything round to her, she would translate that to a justification for what she sees as my bad behaviour. I fully accept my behaviour was bad but the reason was her calling when she did, departing from what we agreed and expecting me to be happy that she was wrecking our meal by doing so just because she thought it better suited her household's timing. I was running late because my aunt (her SiL) was reliant on my cousin to bring her and they were 45 minutes later than the agreed time. So having delayed our meal I was in the midst of three time critical things (which would have been followed by a 25 minute window in which the call should have taken place, responding to the text we agreed I would send when ready). Last night she said some poisonous things and I need to forgive them before we speak.
My thinking is that I do need to tell them what happened to DH because it will come out at some point. Oh yes, and the flowers I ordered the week before Christmas have been delivered today, and those for my sis are bashed around. I have asked her to send me pics if they don't revive and I will get replacements for her. Both of them know I ordered them before Christmas and both have thanked me. I just need time. And my mum needs to promise not to say anything like that again.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

I feel I can't go into the new year with hostilities between my Mum and me so I got DS to call her last year and play the honest broker. She then texted me and we will speak quietly, later this morning, or early afternoon, before our respective visitors arrive.
In the meantime we are getting ready to host some visitors I have three curries to make, along with snacks to prepare and alcohol and non-alcohol to chill. I spent £83.25 on drinks and a cheats bag of ice yesterday. Of that lot £44 was alcohol based and the rest was 0% alcohol. One bottle of Nosecco, several branded (San Pellegrino) plain and orange/lemon flavoured drinks, elderflower tonics, a box of Peroni and Guinness, while I took advantage of 3 for £20 on wine and an extra lump of voucher points on Prosecco. Also in the shop was a frozen turkey crown. They were reduced to £14.99 for the small OB ones (4-5 people), £19.99 for the medium branded (8-10) and unbelievably, £16.99 for a large branded one (10-12). So after asking if that was right, one of the managers checked and confirmed it was, so the last large one is in my freezer. If we were to do a church fundraiser roast dinner this spring, this would be a good option for using it up!
Believe it or not, this is us keeping it very low key. I need to clean the bathrooms and DH will dust and vacuum but that is it. I think he will be spending the night cuddling hot lemon and honey and taking paracetamol. He has a nasty cold, probably from DS & his girlfriend on Christmas Day, but maybe from my cousin on Boxing Day, or something from a sick person at hospital on Wednesday. I do hope I stay clear. I have been so much healthier since stopping work but a winter chest thing is always grim for me and I need to check my rescue packs are in date and ready. A cold->chest->pleurisy/pneumonia is to be avoided if at all possible.
Right, timer is bleeping and bread needs knocking back (and I ought to get dressed!) so if I am not back here later, I wish you all a Happy New Year - Healthy, happy, and within our means, looking forward to the little wins so many of us thrive on. Take care of yourselves and those you love, and thanks again for all the support, advice and comments xSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
