Happy Birthday SL. I will be interested to see how you get on with solar panels. The advisor who came to see us two weeks ago and promised a quote the following day has been silent. He gave us a rough quote of £10k without the battery for 14 panels. No idea if that is expensive or not. He took our bills away to work out how long it would take to recoup cost so maybe it was too long a period as prices due to fall in July.

Ours is nine panels, plus optimiser cables, bird protection and a 5kw battery. Without the battery (about £5k) it is under £7k. We are part of the Solar Together scheme for Suffolk so part of a group (bulk) purchase, supposedly cheaper. With an electric aga our winter draw is high and with it being overcast and piddling this morning, now the battery power has been used, only 0.4kw out of about 3kw is being provided by the array, so far this morning. When the battery was providing the energy, from 6.00- about 8.30 this morning, it was offsetting all but 0.4kwh

A very happy birthday to you (I think you've read my mind this morning as your inspirational friend chat was definitely stolen from my noggin)

If I were in your shoes, I would be waiting until after the holiday to chase the EA.

We paid IRO of £6,000-6,500 for 11 straightforward panels (no optimisers etc.) and bird proofing. Not the best comparison tho, as the panels (c. £4,500) were 7 years ago and the bird proofing came 6 years after the panels (damn pigeons)! So I think your price was very good (we are 3.13 kW and have no battery). That said, our bird proofing is made of steel as opposed to nets/spikes etc. and was definitely a bit more expensive.
