I think it is very important to be kind especially at this moment I think people’s emotions are all over the place and a kind word never hurt anyone and my grandma used to always say if you’ve got nothing nice to say keep it shut 😂 some heartbreaking stories at the moment some things I just can’t watch but at the same time I think there’s a lot of scaremongering going on I try not to listen6

Right - some practicalities this morning. The Last-Legs-fridge-freezer is out front, hopefully close enough to the road for the delivery people to see it and think "Ere Bert, this is the place!" and the toolshed is prepared in line with @Shangaiijimmy's recommendation with the back wall lined with cardboard (very MSE!). We were going to get some Celotex (not too far from the factory) or Kingsland insulation sheets but this is free and looks OK. Not sure if i will get an ETA by text but I have been up and dressed since 7.00 as there is a 12-hour delivery window and being us, we will be one end or the other.
Just to add it was bitterly cold here yesterday - so much so that (I may have imagined it) there seemed to be a waft of warm air when I opened the door on the big old upright freezer that lives in the big shed with the (bee) frames in it (so the wax is not attacked by wax moth) to store the one drawer of stuff that was still in the old freezer. It is definitely not at -20 but it will do as an interim and if not, they are the bits I am least worried about losing (bags of elderflowers in case I want to make cordial before May... that sort of thing)Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

The tale of the delivery was that we hung around until 2pm then I looked online and alarmingly the account said "not yet processed" - I rang the sales line and they unsuccessfully tried to contact the warehouse while I waited. Anyway, the chap rang back within an hour to say the one and only model had been damaged - I suggested I did not mind if they discounted but "apparently" it had been dropped - the conversation was then along the lines of:
Me -
My car is parked elsewhere so the access is clear
with the old F-F on the drive for collection
and the contents are temporarily redeployed to places that can't be left
What else have you got that is not too big, works at -15c?
Them -
I'll just check
To their credit, they called back 5 minutes later to say they had a Blomberg (made by the same people as Beko) and essentially the only difference is handles (recessed on Beko) - it comes with a 3 year warranty and same dimensions, standard and price.
Then he said, "Ooh, one of our delivery vans has just got back, hold on a sec" -
and then confirmed they would bring it immediately -
from about 40 miles away (the local depot, less than 10 miles away has gone in the pandemic).
A few more road miles but sure enough, a call about 45 minutes later to say "we are about 20 minutes away"
And they put it in the shed with the warning not to turn it on for 4-6 hours (having seen the guy lift it off the truck at 45 degrees I have left it overnight)
It was the local Euronics store - and they have had a lot of business from us because all DS's appliances have come from them except their FF (John Lewis). Nice recovery I thought - but they should have contacted me proactivelySave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
