I keep spotting Mrs SJ's dad out in the car when I'm running or on dog walk. He's 83 and with a multitude of health issues and so supposed to be at home. But he won't listen to any of his daughters. Always needs to pop out as the potato supply or bread supply has dipped below a weeks worth! I've given up telling on him as he won't listen and it only gets Mrs SJ annoyed with him!MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......5

Oh SL - your OH's efforts are exactly what my OH would do if I let him do the shopping or anywhere near the food budget! His grocery list would consist mainly of red wine, white squishy bread, lots of ham, several large blocks of cheese, a bit of butter & maybe some steak if he remembered. Only two of those items regularly make it onto our usual list and in very rationed quantities!
That being said OH is pretty good at eating the healthy stuff if that is all we have in (and it usually is) A meal plan kept right near the fridge also keeps him from snacking as he does most of the cooking so knows exactly what we are having on any given day.

I can not remember the last time my OH did the grocery shopping, years ago. I know if he did go it would be he would buy everything on the list but not necessarily in the correct quantities - despite him doing the majority of the cooking, plus he would include chocolate, biscuits, cakes, fizzy drinks - not looking carefully enough to avoid those containing sweeteners, crisps.
OH has lots of positive qualities but likes to treat himself.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

That's what I kind of lived on when I was in my early 20s (except not steak - slices of corned beef, or a pork pie). So healthy!

2023: the year I get to buy a car5 -
I love it - DH posted something about "it used to be our kids we shouted at for going out when they shouldn't - now it's our parents!" - I am still chucking at the idea of confiscating the car keys Trix. I must not go on about it, we went back to it last night but he is very indignant about the list.
I might actually go out today for the first time since 28th March - it will only be to drive the car as I have two parcels to send (little treats for a friend and the last of the tapioca for my Mum), and some flour to deliver and I thought my car could do with being started and run for a bit (it is a diesel). I will drive and DH can do the drop offs and entering of premises with gloves on. I suggested he might look and see if any glaxy or minstrels are on offer in the Post Office Stores but otherwise give the treats a miss (hint hint!).
In money news my council tax looks like it will be £221 a month now (no letter to advise this year). April is always a funny month with it picking up the odds and bits that are not easily divisible by 10. I still think we are in the wrong band - my next door neighbour is Band c and their house is bigger than ours - we are E. No follow-up when I tried to test itSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

Its even more comical SL, my mum last week advised me what she wants for her birthday (mid may).... to go to M&S! i've offered it as a video call experience but apparently thats not good enough
A drive out sounds like a lovely idea!
& boo hiss to the council tax, i've split mine over 12 months from this year, partly that I need the direct debit in the extra 2 months- Mortgage: 1st one down, 2nd also busted

LOL - I love that I'm not the only one with parental frustrations! My Mom (across the pond) took it on board early that she need not leave the house, except for her bi-weekly medical appointment... but the moaning associated with not being able to go to the gym, visit her friends or do her own groceries, and having to rely on others for her shopping & prescription pick-up reminds me of a 3 year old about to have a tantrum! 🤪4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Same here - my dad (although not over 70 has underlying health conditions) won’t stop going out and apparently gets cross when people treat him like he ‘has the plague’... I mean, don’t we all do that at the moment? And the frustration and inconvenience that it’s causing him - outrageous!!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Well I did it. I got the clippers out, put the number 7 attachment on and clipped my own hair!! (where is that eek?) It is now less than an inch long 0.7", I think. B-short anyway. I will come to terms with it by not going out (ha! got that one covered) and not looking in the mirror, or rather, only peering at my skin, teeth and eyes, and ignoring my hair! It will grow!!
In other news, DSiL has already sorted out DMiL's estate and transferred a small but significant amount of money to our bank account. What to do? spend, save, OP? - probably spend and OP it. More discussion needed.
My Mother is staying in and doing as she is told. Very frustrated by the automated useless telephone line for her bank. She just wants a b-chequebook not a phone app! (Has anyone else noticed they are swearing more??). My lovely Sis has been going in with shopping (trusting only herself to be Mum's carer) but no hugs. She even left her car at Mum's to make sure Mum's got a run out to keep it going.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Wow to the 0.7"! Quicker to wash, it has to be said
Are you happy you've done it? Do you like the look of it? Very cool, in all senses of the word!
