If you zoom in on the picture here: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/fsa-gossamer-bb386-pro-n-10-11-crankset/rp-prod152016?gs=1&gclid=Cj0KEQiAwrbEBRDqxqzMsrTGmogBEiQAeSE6ZVkwkD4uGBzXkHqsJeT-e_QOnRh_t_NYUg42WIJUUF4aAtkb8P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds

You'll see a number of teeth at about 4 o'clock, that on the face of it look worn/broken, (could be lighting of the image though). Is this like yours?

I think it's just the lighting.
If you look at the smaller chainring, again at 4 o'clock, you will see that some teeth appear to disappear in the middle but the tip of each tooth is still there.

I tried to add a link to a photo but as I am new to the forum, it blocks me. I double checked this morning and there are actually 19 teeth damaged on the large ring randomly around the circumference but none damaged on the small ring or or the rear cassette. Can't tell if they are snapped but about 50% of the tooth shape is missing. Also think I also finally found the Halfordd warranty statement on their web site - states 12 month cover with no mention of exclusions

It is the lighting, those chainsets do not have any low profile teeth.

I would have a close look at the front mech for damage as well, because the only way I can see this sort of damage happening on a road bike is when something wrong with gear shifting, but if that was happening I would imaging the OP should have been noticed both difficulty in shifting to the bigger ring accompanied by some alarming noises.

Thanks. Front gears are still easy to select between the 2 cogs. Will continue my push at both Halfords and Boardmans, and will show both the wording in their owm warranty policies and with a bit of luck someone will give me a break and replace the ring. I'll let you know if I am successful.

That doesn't look good at all. You sure you haven't caught something in the chain ring when riding?

My thoughts are either stretched cable meaning front mech is not taking chain all the way onto the front ring and wearing, big front to big rear gears bending the chain (a big no no) or kerbing of the ring, usually happens on smaller wheeled (kids) bikes but can happen on a 26/27. None of these causes would be warranty repairs.
  • I don't think those have snapped off they just look very badly worn as if the chain has been riding over them at an angle. The front mech also looks badly worn. Do you do a lot of riding in the lowest gear available on the big ring? If so this puts a lot of strain on the whole drive chain and is not to be recommended.
