Hi,

Just wanted to see what folks experiences with the Q7 model have been? Year group will be interesting information too.

Personally I hated it. A reverse Tardis. Huge on the outside but snug on the inside & a pure devil to park.Give me a Range Rover any day rather than one of them. Plus the fitted tyres were useless in the snow.

Just my view of using one in the Winter of 2010.

My experience is restricted to recoiling in horror at its sheer massive ugliness.

I looked at them before i bought my last X5, along with the ML.

Massive in terms of length, not fantastic to drive either.

I went with the X5 - much better car all round. The ML would have been my second choice

We had a look at one when we were looking for our first 7 seater (not seriously, outside our price range) and were shocked at the lack of room in the back.

As the first reply said, reverse T.A.R.D.I.S.

Great comments guys and girls :)

From a total biased position I've had a slightly different view point. Purchased one a few years back. It was 3 years old with 62k on the clock. It is a 3.0 V6 with most extras. 22" alloys, s-line edition, panoramic sunroof, adaptive air suspension, Bose Surround Sound system etc etc, and Daytona Grey paint job.

From my experience it has been a fantastic car and the inside space issue I must say is not something we have ever noticed; the opposite actually. We have had 4 kids and 3 adults travel and everyone appeared to have plenty of room. It was about a year before I even put up the back 2 seats and I was genuinely surprised that I was fairly comfortable, despite being 5'9.

In terms of driving, it took me a while to love it. Likely as I mostly drove the other car. However in the last year I've driven it most days and come to love it. Especially the sport mode as the car certainly then doesn't feel like a huge one.

I'll admit the outside look is one you either like or don't. To be honest it took me a while to get used to it. Reverse parking would be a nightmare if it was not for the rear camera. Sometimes it looks like I've parked like a tool in car parks due occasionally taking over more than once space. Simply because sometimes the spaces are not wide enough for me to get out the door. The doors could do with being lighter too.

In terms of tyres, I've not used pirelli in ages. They were expensive and
shocking in terms of how long they lasted. Now I use General Grabber and they are like glue to the road. Used once in snow in a field (car park for some country event) and it handled it without any complaints.

The big downside is repair costs. Not had to do any except an injector failed and flooded the engine with fuel. It like a grand to get that fixed. Most local garages are reluctant to work on it as they don't have much experience with them. Started seeing a few more around town so hopefully that will change. There was a garage in Suffolk that was happy to work on it, shame we lost them when we move. Audi when the breaks needed changed wanted 2k. Local garage was £504. The local Audi dealership is great and the staff do a good job...just don't like Audi prices.

We did consider selling before Xmas when that repair job took place. However we just like the car too much for that.

Our car looks identical to this, except our alloys have a dark grey coating on them (black usually due to not washing it enough)

Again good comments from everyone. I totally agreed with some when the car was first bought. Perhaps it is one that takes time to get used to. :)
  • So what was the point of this thread, if you don't mind me asking? Just an excuse for you to tell us all you have a Q7 and think it's brilliant?

If you just wanted other owners' thoughts and opinions, Parkers' owner reviews might be a better place to find people to agree with you. I'd suggest reading only the 5* ones.

I don't think I was looking for anyone to agree with me. I was simply asking what the post is titled. I also had positive and negative points of the car in my post, which was simply putting my own experience forward. I also asked for the year group too, just to see the difference.

I also wasn't just looking for current owners, as the title says it all, I was thinking about current, past and folks who had simply had one for a weekend test drive, or even perhaps folks who know someone with one.

Your comment of, "Just an excuse for you to tell us all you have a Q7 and think it's brilliant?", what the scooby doo is that all about????

I think it's the shock of seeing a sensible discussion topic about cars in the Motoring board ... it's thrown people. :D

It's just a bit strange; most people asking for peoples opinions on a car are looking to purchase their first one, and don't then disagree with one using their own anecdotal evidence.

This format of post comes up fairly often, almost exclusively by 1 or 2 members, and is always an excuse to talk about how great their car is. It's usually a car that's pretty unsuited to a money saving forum, too. You must agree that's how this would look to someone else?

So maybe you had a genuine curiosity, and hopefully that's been satisfied. If we've taken you the wrong way then our apologies.

Watching with hilarity as someone got stuck when they couldn't work out how wide it was.
