So what's the actual damage, have you phoned them yet to find out?

Use Dent Devils / Chips Away for economic resolution.

No, the other party is entitled to a proper repair and a car while his is being repaired.

@sooler, was advised by insurance company not get involved as they'll deal with the other driver. Passed the driver contact detail and name they left in the note (no reg number unfortunately).

Might be worth checking to see if mum qualifies for a blue badge for the future. Or perhaps her door could be held open for her...

this and or a bit of common sense when parking, ie not getting too close to the car next to you

This is worth thinking about in the future op.

I sometimes drive my elderly and disabled parents around and they are under strict instructions to wait for me to open the door and put myself between my car and the ones next to us. My dad's "bull in a china shop" attitude combined with disability almost guarantees damage to other cars if I don't take care.

It's not a problem in blue badge spaces, but they aren't always available.

No remorse AT ALL (may be a little for posting here), as notified the insurance company straight away, called back when mum explained what happened and notified them of MY responsibility.

You only rang the insurance company because you thought you were being scammed not because you were taking ownership, remember?

"I googled it, found out it was a scam and I need to inform insurance company and the police."

Still not sensing ANY empathy with the other car owner here, or taking any ownership for the problem or taking any responsibility for putting your dear old mum in the situation in the first place, only excuses for your mums behaviour and minimising cost and risk to YOU.

And then we wonder why kids grow up like they do, eh?

And its people like your mum who remind me why i avoid supermarkets and shopping centres if i can and if i really have to, i park way over at the far side of the car park.

Fantastic approach she has - whack someone elses pride and joy and then keep your head down and say nothing.

Great example to your kids too about taking responsibility for their actions.

I hope shes ashamed of herself.
eh... we all make mistakes, sometimes it's just much easier to just ignore it and move on. A while ago I opened my door far too fast (I was in a rush) and it smashed into the brand new BMW parked next to me. The car looked awful and my door was fine. After checking there were no security cameras around, I thought it was easiest to drive away and park somewhere else.

I knew MSE forum was in decline but I didn't realise how many nasty, judgemental people there are on here and this is just one thread. The OP wanted proper advice. Once her mother had explained the situation, she did the right thing. People are much too precious about their cars, anyway.
