Electric cars

Sure, there are some edge cases where the diesel is required, but I don't think many people (beyond horseboxes, farmers and builders) that will need to exceed 2000kg, or even 1500kg.
I assume that very few people remove tow balls even if they are removable (I could be wrong, I long the handbook for a Disco insists it's removed when not in use in case of damage).
So whilst I personally care about towing weights (my red line is 1500kg), I suspect that the vast majority of car buyers don't, so the number of people who can't buy an EV because of towing is tiny. Easily under 1%.0 -

Martyn1981 wrote: »Happy to have a play if you want. So yesterday you suggested 0.2% of cars being EV's in your area, so let's go with that.
30,000,000 cars @ 0.2% = 60,000 cars
Let's assume 5% are being used at any one time for long distance driving and will need charging on router (probably too high a percentage, but 'wot the hell').
60,000 cars @ 5% = 3,000 cars
Now, if they can drive for 3 hrs, and need 12 mins to charge, then charging time is 12mins/192mins = 6.25%
3,000 cars @ 6.25% = 187 cars
assume 50% will be using other chargers / charging networks
187 cars @ 50% = 94 cars
spread over 50 charging stations = 1.9 charging points
These numbers may be wrong as I couldn't really bother doing them properly, but suggest to me that this rollout seems adequate, and will presumably grow/expand over time.
Correction. 50 map locations actually means 100 charging stations (1 each side of the road), so we have 94 cars divided by 100 charging stations, means 'we' need approx 1 charging point per charging station to be adequate, 2+ charging points would be more than 'adequate' at this point in time.
Will this address the negative spin ........ doubt it!Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Not necessarily - a single charging site may be accessed by both sides via a roundabout, like many motorway services.
Are you saying 50?
Edit - Actually I know it's 100, but I omitted the link in the previous post just to see if you would quickly try to post some more spin, and unsupported claims.
National Grid Planning Fast Charging Network For UK!!!8220;We think the rollout of the charging points should be structured and coordinated. Rather than connecting one customer at a time and having a piecemeal approach, provide the infrastructure in a coordinated way. Our solution is about future proofing; not just for cars but for light goods vehicles and trucks in the future.!!!8221; There would actually be 100 charging locations, 50 on one side of highways and 50 on the other.Martyn1981 wrote: »Will this address the negative spin ........ doubt it!Mart. National Grid are saying 50 locations. I'm merely reminding you that many motorway services are single-site serving both carriageways.0

Yes, it's a lot easier to find the space for the batteries under a largeish SUV without such a trade-off on boot space, so less need to remodel the boot floor pressings.
Compare that towing limit to 2000kg for the diesel Outlander, though, or 2500kg for a DiscoSport.
Yup.
How things change, just yesterday you were claiming ....Anyway, if you want to tow a caravan from home to the coast buy a hybrid
I actually find it strange that you're not aware that the Volvo mentioned has received much praise for it's towing ability amongst the caravan owning community ... but then again, if it doesn't suit, turn a blind eye & pretend it doesn't exist ...
Spin, spin, spin .... if you don't like EVs don't think that using a 'smoke & mirrors' defence will work when found to be wrong! ... If you have legitimate concerns, by all means let us all know, who knows - many may agree ... but all this EV rubbishing simply comes across as a basic 'resistance to change' position without accepting that change is happening, and it's happening quickly ... it's not just EV enthusiasts saying it, it's the industry which builds the cars ... above that - even the oil & petroleum sector agrees!:D ...
